How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was watching the NBA finals on TV and sometimes when a play went really well for the Spurs I would proclaim “Good Bull!” My non-Aggie friends asked, “Good Bull?, what is that? What does it mean?” It was difficult to translate it. They say the word “bull” in it tends to indicate something negative. So, what is the definition of “Good Bull”. ?
.
---------------------
.
Good Bull. [ˈgu̇d ˈbu̇l]. A reference to good news, or a good story as related to Texas A&M or Aggies. It's legacy Texas A&M military slang. It is unique, part of the Aggie dialect only an Aggie would understand when used in the right context, colloquialisms and dialects, so it is generally only used amongst Aggies. “Good Bull” is an Aggie term which should be copyrighted. The origin of the term is not known for certain but is thought it came from "bull sessions." A good story, or actions that would likely lead to good stories in a future bull session were "good bull." Bad stories or behavior that would lead to bad reception in a bull session were "bad bull." Example: Aggies sending truckloads of aid to tornado victims - good bull. Ags throwing Johnny under the bus for inconsequential shenanigans - bad bull. Also used as an exclamation after hearing Aggie related, good news, such as, “My daughter just graduated from high school and is going to be a fish at Aggieland this fall. GOOD BULL!” Or an Aggie friend overhearing the good news, “Hey Texag89, that is really GOOD BULL!” Although it includes the word “bull”, it’s origin has nothing to do with agriculture, but is a reference to story telling, and speaking. Some Aggies consider it inappropriate for non-Aggie related use, such as watching the NBA finals and seeing Tim Duncan make a tip-in basket and then proclaiming, “Good Bull!” Since it is not the Aggie basketball team, and Tim Duncan, although a heck of a nice guy from the USVI Island of St. Croix, he is not an Aggie, and therefore, the use of the term would not be appropriate, especially when used in the company of non-Aggies. However, other Aggies are of the opinion that it is not possible to love A&M and its traditions without saying "Good Bull", “tea-sip”, or “sit down bus driver” to perfect strangers or people who have no idea what it means. Some of these Aggies absolutely love using uniquely Aggie terms anywhere, and upon receiving a bewildered look from a non-Aggie, take the opportunity to enlighten them, and reportedly, then receive a response from the non-Aggies that they think it's pretty cool. Some Aggies take it even further, and feel strongly that those Aggies who are embarrassed by using such unique terms in public in front of non-Aggies are merely two percenters, and therefore should turn in their ring and diploma and go get one from Austin.

Simple answer: Anything that promotes the Aggie Spirit.

Example: AJ McCarron's mom calling Johnny for a booty call. Good Bull.

It's legacy old A&M military slang. It's something unique, part of the Aggie dialect. Do you speak dialect outside of other poeple that also speak it? Generally not. It's a term only an aggie woudl understand, so is generally only used amongst Aggies. As so, what's the big deal?

People are always too concerned about what other people think. I say F other people.

Good Bull

There's two bulls standing on top of a mountain. The younger one says to the older one: "Hey pop, let's say we run down there and f*** one of them cows". The older one says: "No son. Lets walk down and f*** 'em all".

Good Bull - An outdated term used only by older former students and an extremely small percent of the student body who cling to even the most outdated traditions.

...sorry, I was 07' and have pretty much only seen good bull referenced on TexAgs. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the words "Good Bull".

Um, BailJack, The OP used it in reference to good deeds done by the Spurs (to a non Aggie no less).

I used it amongst my corps buddies, because we all knew what the term meant, and it was an organization whose purpose is preserving a bit of history. Again, used in the right context, colloquialisms and dialects are fine. It's foolish to use them amongst those that don't understand them.

I still use "bad bull" quite often, mostly in wrong context (non-Aggie related)

But I'm stuck with using "huah" from being Army ROTC. I use it so casually, it stand for "yes", "that's awesome" and "I really agree with your preferences for a more fiscally sound government".

sandman - I do. I guess that makes me a bad Ag.

'redass' is in the same category. It conjures up images of dudes doing really stupid and pointless stuff to each other, telling their kids about it, and then their kids thinking they have to do it because their old mad did it back in the day.

there's a really fine line between redass and dumbass. some Ags cross that line and it reflects badly on all of us from time to time.

what are you talking about?!?!

I'm not insecure!!!!

---------

In all seriousness I will admit to that. It probably has a lot to do with growing up in the back yard of the t-sips and the good guys having random pot-shots thrown our way during random conversations. Until the recent past we have been the minority in the crowd and most folks were generally ignorant about Aggies due to unfamiliarity.

I care about A&M and the image we project.....always have. I'm less touchy about it all now but it's always been a point of frustration for me that some can't help themselves and willingly hand ammunition to our rivals.

c/o 05 and I heard it all the time - wasn't aware current students were no longer using the term.

I echo a previous definition, that good bull is anything promoting or in support of Aggie spirit or tradition. The Ol' Rock stories at yell practice are examples of good-bull stories.

Chipotle - that's good. If a longhorn says it you can ask for clarification, i.e. '' UT Knoxville or UT austin?".
