Contrary to popular opinion it is these doctors and trainers that determine if these kids can play and not coaches.

Coaches pressure kids to play hurt all the time behind closed doors. Don't pretend otherwise.

That may happen, but the risks aren't worth it in most cases - even for immoral coaches.

If we did away with the helmet all together I guarantee there would be ZERO head to head hits and concussions. No one would want to drive their forehead into someone's chest or nose.

yeah, but then every time someone was tackled and their head hit the ground they would suffer a concussion.

people would probably get killed playing football without any helmets at all.

doesn;t matter how big you are, your head is still just as vulnerable as a smaller guys head, and the guys playing football are huge now.

if a 300 lb lineman tackles a 220 lb running back and his head gets slammed to the turf with no helmet we are talking serious, serious, life threatening injury

softer helmets only work if they can protect the head from random injury as well as a hard helmet can

If the problem was really size of the players which many seem to claim, you could just put weight limits like in boxing.

Waivers and an understanding that it is a dangerous sport is the only solution.

Football's popularity has probably peaked but will not go away entirely. It will most likely become a regional sport instead of nationwide. The cost of the insurance premiums are going to skyrocket with all the insurance changes and for school districts struggling with budget issues they will spend the money elsewhere. But there are way too many million dollar high school football stadiums in large football states like Texas for it to disappear.

Teacher Ag, you have no idea what you are talking about. None. I coaches for forty years and never saw it happen.

Enjoy it now, because it will fade for several other reasons over next 20 years,

I guess we should congratulate the sips for being cutting edge and getting a three year head start.

Golden

But honestly, the fact that we all whine and complain about how it might as well be flag football is what will kill the sport. The reason we love football is because of the nature of the game. It's all about who can control the game and push the other team out of the way. Break their spirit. Impose your will. With all the rule changes, and numerous more to come, don't be surprised to see hockey rise briefly to take the place of football, before America eventually folds to soccer. It's obvious that over half of the country is now hippy, sissy liberals. That equals more soccer. Get ready

ashley, let me ask you a few questions:

Are you hurt, or are you injured?
Can you play? Do you feel like you can play?
How much does being a part of this team mean to you?
Don't worry about what I'm gonna think; how do you think your teammates are gonna feel when they run out there to line up and they look around and don't see you out there with them?

I got nothing else to say to you. I'm not gonna tell you what to do. I'm not your momma and I'm not your daddy. I'm just a football coach, and I only talk to football players.

Any of that sound familiar?

Soccer was codified and formalized by the imperialistic, war-mongering English.

But you are right about half the country.

Until 100,000 people are willing to pay big bucks to gather at Kyle Field to watch chess, there will always be football.

English. Doesn't count. War mongering or not

But I thought it was natural human instinct to always lower your head to brace for impact? That is what football experts who "almost made the varsity team, except coach didn't like me" keep telling me. You can't help leading with the crown of your head because that is how we were designed/evolved, just like goats.
