Don't know how many of y'all saw my post the other day--my dad never got his ring when he was here, so my mom and I surprised him and got him his ring whenever I got my ring. He had absolutely no idea it was going to happen.
He presented me my ring and was taking pictures when I reached back to the table and grabbed his ring. He was very confused and asked what I was doing. I told him that today isn't just my ring day, but his too. He stood there shocked for a second and finally took the ring. He looked at my mom who reaffirmed that it was for him. My dad, who is not an emotional guy, was brought to tears (moreso tears in his eyes).
Since then, he has not been able to stop staring at his ring (neither have I). It was a moment him and I will never forget. For him, being surprised with something he has wanted for 25 years and, for me, seeing his face as he realized it was not just my day, but his day too. It was the best day of my life.
We never really knew what the Aggie Ring meant (we still probably don't fully understand), but we know that it is the most valuable object we own. It's not just jewelry. It's not just something to show where we went to school. It's a symbol of family--for us our blood family and our Aggie family. It's a moment that you realize you are connected to thousands of fallen Aggies, thousands of current Aggies, and thousands of future Aggies to come. It's a moment that you learn a little more of who you are and it's a moment that you learn a little more of who you will always be.
For those of you Ags who have your rings, what does your ring mean to you?
