Most of the bjching about how soft the Corps has gotten comes from old D&C's who like to talk about how their hardcore badass cadet experience prepared them for the rigorous life of a suburban insurance agent.

This is truth. The majority of us guys who ended up in the service didn't like the nonsense. Now we let the current cadets make their own Corps.

As an old D&C, I approve this post! Of course, I don't live in the burbs, and don't sell insurance, but it is hilarious anyway.

Just FYI, cadets don't run the Corps. The Corps is run by the Commandant and staff. Student-led organization in name only.

Companies control their own training, however, any major policy changes are run above the student's heads. The Corps Commander really has no authority...

And also, what is really lame about said outfit in pictures is that the *female* guidon bearer is smirking and the pissheads are smiling in front of their fish. So unbelievably limp...

Disagree. And if you didn't like the "nonsense", why were you in it? You could have quit, and done regular ROTC somewhere else.

C'mon. Don't even compare 90% of ROTCs out there to A&Ms...all services.

Because I love Texas A&M, and I joined the corps to be in the band and for a commission. Both of which I accomplished. Even if there was a lot of nonsense in the Corps, I wouldn't quit and go somewhere else. The nonsense was something I just tolerated while in the band, to be an Aggie and an officer.

Funny, but mostly funny because there is some truth to it.

Sad but true. I don't know how it is under the new guy, but under GVA outfits couldn't even pick their own leadership.

When did the Corps institute the tradition of no smiling?

Not a military guy myself but I'm pretty darned sure there is a lot of nonsense going on in the service!

I saw pissheads smile a lot, usually as they watched fish duck walk to their hometowns, do pink stools, or hang from the I-beams in the band hall.

My p-heads smiled and cut up quite a lot if front of the us fish, usally while we were in the front leaning rest or "picking daisies" on the wall. I never understood this "got to be serious in front of the fish at all time" BS that the heads do now. Also never understood why some outfits won't let the fish look at or touch the unit guidon. When I was a fish, at chow, the stick dick would give the guidon to one of the fish and our class was responsible for getting it safely back to the dorm.

But I disagree on you're statement a little. Just recently, a kid that was a pisshead when I was a Zip, was selected for a leadership position in the RVs by a majority vote. He was denied the position because the Commandant didn't believe he should have it as a Marine contract because it wasn't a "good enough position". He already had a C/O position in the bag for a MU, but G-Ram said he can only have that position.

WTF?

This. The older I get, the more ridiculous I find the manners in which I "trained" my soldiers back in the day. Granted, military bearing is an absolute must, but let's all be super critical of a bunch of kids who forego a normal college experience and then have a little fun when the football players come out to the Quad. But let's all sit around telling of the days when we learned to be good cadets by getting punched while at parade rest. I get it...we all went through the last hardest (fill in school or training session). Now it's all soft, right? Grow up. Oh, and there are some females in the Corps right now that would've made you all look weak, even back in your "prime", studs.

Edit for the fact that if staff doesn't give me my damn 12th Man Foundation tag soon, I'm gonna flip.
