Now that we have freed ourselves from that morbidly obese, mongoloid step-cousin who prefers to dress in a baby poop shade of orange, isn’t it about time to click the refresh button on the lyrics to our fight song? If not now, then when?
I understand that it’s fun to rub it in their noses as we cathartically sing our cherished war hymn for the first year or 2 in the SEC, because the words are still very appropriate. But shouldn’t we at least begin to think about starting a few new traditions that faithfully reflect our singular excellence, while retaining our rich history and boundless future??
Don’t know about anyone else, but I am already weary from trying to explain our fight song to opposing football fans around the SEC, and beyond, now that we are no longer affiliated with “that other conference” and that evil institution that we so love to hate. The quizzical looks from opposing fans are understandable, and it seems to me that this is only going to get worse as the years go by.
I’ll hang up and listen.
