I just spoke with Marcie Ullmann at the A&M foundation and got a good bit of information about the process and what would need to take place. She indicated that based on all of her research, nothing had been set up in Joey's name.
The basic process is this-
The Foundation sets up an agreement with the facilitators of the donation, then creates an "account" within the Foundation.
Individuals would then be able to donate to this account/fund either through the foundations website and indicating this would be for the Joey V fund, or by contacting them directly and notifying them that you would like to donate to this fund.
Some questions she raised about the fund led me to believe it would be best to involve his family at this point- things such as "what type of student to grant the scholarship to? What were Joey's interests?" things that could help the foundation ensure his life is continually remembered in the best way possible.
I'm attempting to locate contact info for his family presently- if anyone has any info about this I would LOVE your help.
edit- once it's all set up at the foundation she said it's then in the hands of the Aggie Network to grow it- and only the Foundation would have access to the fund, $25,000 would be the minimum required to have the scholarship endowed
3:30PM **UPDATE**
I've reached out to several folks I'm semi-close to get the word spread through higher-ups so we can hopefully have someone connected to Joey reach out to his family, rather than a complete stranger, GREAT call BlackHills!.
I spoke with Marcie again and she will be involving another person, Cindy Munson. Cindy will work with myself and BlackHills to set up the account. We want to be sure and get this thing off the ground and moving upward before we reach out to his family, especially with the anniversary coming up so soon.
Once I've spoken to Cindy I'll post another update- until then, keep spreading the word so we get more folks interested in this!
