Jason Cook said it was an option on the table, and I'm here to tell you why it is dumb.
Adding black to uniforms for teams that do not have black as one of their colors was a bad uniform trend of the 2000s. Many teams tried it, wore them a few times, and then quietly moved away back to their old uniforms. Teams that tried it and moved away include Texas, Duke, USC, Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Mets. They have all abandoned the black. I'll put some pictures below my text of them.
No one seems to remember this, but A&M used black uniforms in basketball for one game on 12/2/2007 against Grambling on an untelevised game. Everyone asked "Why is A&M wearing black?" And we haven't worn them since. I predict the same future for any black football uniforms. Good luck finding any pictures of these on the internet. I found some and will put them below.
tl;dr: black is a dumb trend that was tried and failed. We can do better. "We've got to fight for maroon and white"
Besides the latest trend in uniforms is to add gray. And I personally would be OK with us using gray as an accent.

Agreed on the black jerseys. Though I would like to point out that, while it's almost impossible to tell from those photos, the numbers on the A&M jersey were maroon, not black.

Whoever designed those black A&M jerseys with the logo nearly a foot below the collar must have been new. They look terrible. More because of the design and not the colors.

this may sound crazy and off the wall, but has jason thought about maroon jersey's? I think those would look real cool. Can't find a pic, but I'm sure someone here who has mad skillz could conjur up such an image.

Kinda wish our basketball team still looked like that today. Hate the jerseys, just wish we still had Joseph Jones, Dominique Kirk, Donald Sloan, Marlon Pompey, Derrick Roland, etc.

Only modification needed is to make our uniforms look at lot like Tampa Bay's when the Bucs don the gunmetal gray with the red flag outlined in white. Add a black facemask. The same look except with the maroon aTm outlined in white on that helmet would be the sharpest uniform in college football IMO! On special occasions a white helmet with maroon aTm and black center stripe with black facemask would look awesome. Forget the all black look though. That is overused and makes a team look like it is trying to be something it is not.

Black jerseys do not.

Imagine these babies, but instead of red the color is maroon. Plus those pewter helmets (some use the word pewter to describe the color) would so awesome with a maroon "aTm: outlined in white. No wonder bleacherreport describes the Bucs uniform as the best in the NFL. Let's borrow their concept! We would be totally original in college football, plus the look rocks!

If the players like it, and the recruits like it, then we should LOVE it. If these trends, no matter how dumb or gay or whatever the op and other haters think it is, get the current and future players motivated and excited, then by all means GIVE THEM SOME BLACK JERSEYS. ESPECIALLY if it means more wins, awesome stadium improvements, and overall excitement around the program and the games.

I actually have one of those black A&M basketball jerseys and wear it to the base gym--get compliments on it all the time.

The main point of my post was that a black jersey now is about 10 years behind the trends. The new stuff is gray and/or metallic. See Oregon and the picture above.
