No one seems to remember Skip Walker or Bucky Sams but that was back in the day of the wishbone.

My vote would be for Keith Woodside. I thought he was a great upfield runner.

Some of the names being thrown out are ridiculous. Darren Lewis finished his career as the #5 rusher in the history of CFB and we're comparing him to Courtney Lewis, Mike Goodson and Keith Woodside? Those guys were all fine but Lewis was phenomenal. The NFL scouts never questioned his talent but they did question a positive cocaine test prior to the draft.

but what Larry Stegent did on the last play of the tt game in 67 puts him on my list

Bullpen Chias is correct. Lewis all the way!

Also gotta go with Lewis, with Rodney a very close second just based on his strength and fight alone. CMike has a chance to get there if he can stay healthy.

If you never saw him play, Curtis Dickey was so good and so fast. I mean crazy fast.

Darren was the best that I have ever seen on Kyle Field.

Though I remember watching DIckey on TV way back when. His speed was something else.

I loved Rodney Thomas for his never quit running attitude.

Greg Hill had some sensational runs. But could be stopped in the backfield when Rodney would make another 5 yards.

McElroy could have been the best. He had all the talents.

Courtney was fun to watch before he was injured. After that he was not the same.

Goodson should have played for RC. He may have been the best ever. Especially with J Train on the other side of the backfield in RC's scheme of offense.

Though Dick Todd was the best RB that I ever met. He had a great career with the Redskins and was one hell of a man.

Biggest impact in NFL has to go to Dante Hall actually although he was a WR/KR there.

But he had 12,000+ career return yards, 2x all pro, 2x pro bowl and on the 2000's all decade nfl team.

I was the most awed by Darren Lewis, could not believe he did not turn into an all pro type back. Wasted talent IMHO.

Jarrin John Kimbrough

Darren Lewis
Curtis Dickey
Rodney Thomas

FWIW, both C-Mike & Cyrus the Virus have an opportunity to make this list.

Hard to compare from one time period to another. It amazes me that the "no substitution rule" meant that Jon Kimbrough and JD Crow had to do all that on offense and then turn around and play defense. If you came out you were done. Amazing. That said I am going

Kimbrough
Lewis
Crow
Dickey

On this date in history it was Curtis Dickey.

Sat, Sep 22, 1979 @ Penn State (#6) State College, Pa. W 27-14

Peen State was a powerhouse D that had no answer for that kind of speed/moves.

my point of reference is 1975 to the present. My top 6 in no particular order and based upon talent, performing in the clutch, and winning big games:

Curtis Dickey
Leeland McElroy
Rodney Thomas
Keith Woodside
Jorvorskie
Ja'mar Toombs

And Cyrus' 6-game stretch to end the season has him moving up my list.

worth noting...all the RB's on my list had big games and memorable runs vs. the longhorns. Those tend to be the plays we remember through the years. (along with championship games and bowl games)

Darren Lewis!

He had "moves within moves". No one tackler could take him down - he had to be gang tackled. He set defenders up so they would only be able to try a weak arm tackle on him. Not known for his speed, but he did have a 100 yard kick-off return for a TD on Monday Night Football with the Bears.

I've been following Aggie football since Sherrill coached. It's Lewis. Dude was an animal.

Darren Lewis. He could run in traffic better than any back we've ever had.

After his injury he gained some weight before his senior year and he lost a about 1/2 a step.

There are several great honorable mention but D Lewis is the best back I've ever seen at A&M.

I was born in '71 and became an Aggie during the Sherrill era. My vote is for Darren Lewis, although McElroy was a highlight reel.

Lewis seems to be the favorite, but everyone seems to forget about c mike if he has another great year and BTHO T.U then i think he is up there

What about Cyrus? He ran for over 1000 yards despite not getting the majority of reps at the beginning of the year.

Cyrus may be the best football player we've ever had (from a doing the little things right) including Dat.

He may have been the best back in the country the last 7 games of the season, but I still dont think he's on the list of greatest at A&M ever.

If he can continue racking up 100 yard games and get 7-8 next year (should easily put him over 1000 again) I would move him into the honorable mention, but right now he's not there.

Here we go again. No one was here 100 years ago to remember those players. Idiots! Everyone seems to answer these dumb posts and only players from the past 25 years get remembered. Just say past 25 years and not all time! Cause not of you were around!!!

Curtis Dickey without question. Not only did he OWN Penn State's ranked defense in 1979, but he single-handedly destroyed tu in 1979. I'll never forget the 13 yard td carry of his with two busted ribs carrying the ball and his crutches the entire way...

OLYMPIC speed baby! Don't believe me? Just ask those coal miners he burned early in the first quarter AT PSU.
