The NCAA’s ruling on $cam Newton’s eligibility is ridiculous and totally inconsistent. USC’s President has every reason to be upset.
My friend is a member of Bamaonline.com and they found the number to the NCAA Compliance Office where parents of student athletes and recruiters can call and ask questions about potential compliance issued. To make a point, they have started calling and pretending to be a parent with a legit recruiting issue. Then, after they get a few potentially legit questions in they ask something about would it be a violation if they asked a booster for money to secure their kids commitment.
They have requested the power of TexAgs to help them out. The number for the compliance office is 317-917-6008. Give them a call and post what they say.

Should be good for a laugh anyway.

I called and went on and on asking questions about "my son" and claiming I wanted to make sure I knew about random rules and talked about an official visit we were going on this weekend.

Then I said, I am having dinner with a booster from the school. My son wont be there, and he will never know, but I want to make sure that if I ask him for money, my son will still be eligible.

She said asking anyone for money is against the rules and a violation of their amatuerism policy.I said what about Cam Newton's dad and then she hung up on me.

Poor compliance shlubs answering phones now have to absorb a beating because the folks in charge at the NCAA are corrupt dickwads.

This phone number is not just to a "call center" or information center. The people who answer the phones are actual compliance officers who make decisions.

That being said, I am sure this decision was made at the top, but still, these arent just poor low level employees putting up with this crap.

Do they get paid whether or not they pick up the phone? Yup. Then let the onslaught begin...

If your job involves answering random phone calls from message board yuck monkeys playing games, then you are a low level shlub no matter what your title may be. Anyone that has a job that involves taking calls from the public should already know they have a **** job though.

Is it not strange how inconsistent the NCAA has been over the years in regard to compliance. USC, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Memphis, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Colorado, UCLA, Michigan, Connecticut, etc. These are only a few of the schools that I am aware of in the past 20 years who have a questions raised. Have they all been treated the same?

The various university leaderships are a true disgrace for they have the ability to stop this cheating. Catch me if you can.

There's nothing inconsistent here at all. The NCAA has cleared him to play for the SEC game in hopes that Auburn wins and they can have the windfall payday of an Auburn-Oregon BCS Championship game. Once the season is over and Cam is in the NFL, the NCAA will punish the school and the future player's of Auburn, just like USC and the current Trojan player's are paying for Reggie Bush's mistake. You have to love the NCAA, it's all about the money.

It's corrupt and a bunch of horsesh*t, which is why I want the big time universities to pull out of the NCAA. Why do they punish future player's for the actions of former player's? How does that deter rule breaking? You think Reggie Bush cares about what happened to USC after he's making millions in the NFL?

There is nothing inconsistant, only if they do follow up and eventually hammer Auburn. However, if they end up doing nothing, then this is the most corrupt scandal I have ever seen.

Its just a little fishy that they tell Auburn before the Georgia game that there is evidence that rules were broken. They were then informed on Monday that NCAA amateurism bylaws had been violated, and the school on Tuesday declared Cam ineligible. The NCAA supposedly “investigated” and declared him eligible on Wednesday.

It seems here like the violation was deciding not to declare him ineligible when the evidence showed up and waiting until they completed the regular season to do anything. The whole thing smells way too fishy.

They would have b-slapped the crap out of them if they were a 5-5 UH team. OU, tu, USC, Ohio St, Bama, Nebraska...not so much

That corrupt organization deserves all the grief they get.

What's totally different about the Cam Newton fiasco is the NCAA is not acting after the fact. Both the NCAA and SEC were presented with sufficient information to rule Cam ineligible, but chose to ignore it.

The backlash from this will be monumental. Plus, if you read the info on the tiggercraps website, it looks like Auburn's in for a world of hurt...

It really is a fascinating read.

I'm betting you're right. The BCS & the NCAA know that TCU v. Oregon would be a dud, so they're putting off the inevitable (come on, the FBI heard those casino owners talking about Cam's payment plan on a secret wiretap. Cam is guilty as sheet! At the very, very least, you bust Auburn for lack of institutional control).

However, getting a big name SEC team in there is way better money-wise (and in fact, the controversy increases interest). So delay things, take the money, and then drop the hammer later. Makes sense.
