I know this is the football board where common sense is as rare as an aggie win over OU, but the officials likely could have that feed sent their monitor on the field to review. Technology is CRAZY!

AP just always looks for reasons to **** on any thread possible rudy...might as well give it up...

I'm curious as well about what the rule is about a fumble into the endzone with no recovery.

My thought is dead ball - touch back and its goes to the other team at the 20 - but really I dont know.

It was a touchdown. No replay. Even though they didn't have replay avaialble since it wasn't on TV.

Husky, that's the one question I have as well. Can't find anything in the rule book, so I've asked Sports Sturm.

I hope folks realize the actual refs on the field don't make the decisions in college. It is all up to the replay official upstairs in the press box.

If you were paying attention to Beagle, the replay official just replays it in his mind based upon Dave South's play-by-play. If he is a touchdown, there is no doubt what the 'correct' call is....

You have no idea if the Aggies would have won or lost after this play. The game was tied, and this touchdown took the lead. Also, it's spelled carelessness.

And I'm not entirely sure what happens if they reviewed it and it was a fumble. It never went out of the endzone, so it might not be a touchback. Since the play was blown dead, I'm not sure if they can review that and make a change.

The officials don't have a monitor on the field to review. The replay booth tells the officials what to say in College Football.

fact of the matter is that no replay was initiated, therefore the touchdown counted.

Focus your energy on *****ing and moaning on something else AP....it doesnt matter anymore. If it comes up in the future (and that's IF) then the officials will deal with it accordingly and the review official in the booth upstairs will make the call.

How is it cocky? folks drop the ball all the time. Did he cut it close? Of course, better not do it again. But I didn't see any "cocky" high stepping, moonwalking, or Icky Shuffle.

Poor coaching. Players should be scared to death of what a coach would do if they did this. Obviously our players aren't too worried about holding onto the ball.

I agree; there is a group of about 10-12 of us that have been sitting in the same area for gosh knows how long and there wasn't one of us that didnt think that punt hit the heel of one of our guys. Scared the crap out of us.

This is the kind of call the sips get in every game, so I think it's just fine that we benefitted for once.

Do you have a rule link for this result? A ball FUMBLED into the end zone but that is not recovered absolutely would not be placed at the 1 yard line to benefit the team that fumbled it. The result is a touchback, tie game, and all FIU has to do is get into FG range, which they did. A&M got bailed out and definitely should have lost to Florida International. Admit it.

A ball fumbled out of the back or through the side of the endzone is a touchback. A ball fumbled into the endzone and picked up by a defender who is down in the endzone is a touchback.

I don't know what the rule is! I've never seen that occur. My guess is that the play was blown dead, the official ruled it a touchdown, therefore it is a touchdown and unreviewable.

Inadvertant whistle usually results in a replay of the down right? If that happened the TD wouldn't count and we'd replay the down? That would've been crazy.

An inadvertent whistle is anytime a whistle is blown incorrectly. If he dropped it before the ball went into the end zone, it's an inadvertent whistle if he blows it.

That is the question. I said with convinction that the result would be a touchback to see if anyone can come up with a rule. I can't find one that addresses it.

The other team didn't fall on the ball, it never went out of the back of the endzone, so what is the rule about that? I'm pretty sure it isn't a touchback without one of those two things happening anyway.
Tv or not doesn't mean they can't review it there are still cameras.
It would have been a tied game anyway, so technically we are still in overtime and didn't lose because of it yet.

I think you're right, if it keeps happening eventually some ref is going to catch it and rule a fumble, as it should be.

Also I don't know if anyone posted Aggie DL and current CFL'er Ron Flemons' fumble at the goal line last week. To be fair to Ron, he wasn't trying to start his celebration early, he just seemed to ease up at about the five and lost his grip. Maybe if he had started a celebration instead of chasing the ball after the drop he could have gotten the TD call.

If I were him on the specific play I would have ran to the back of the endzone and given the ball to the flyover pilots.
