Remember that all 7+ win teams must be selected before 6-6 teams.

is that true? I thought I read somewhere that wasn't a for sure fact but I could be wrong.

if that's true then the Insight would pick the 7 win team over us and OU.

I think INDY would choose us over OU. We travel better.

that leaves OU in the Texas Bowl, assuming they lose to OSU.

The Texas Bowl has significant incentive to make the Independence Bowl an offer they won't refuse to pass on A&M.

Only if your conference doesn't have enough ties. Big 12 has a bunch of bowl tie-ins, a 6-6 A&M team would be seated in a Big XII bowl tie-in before a 7-5 Sunbelt team would be "at-larged" in.

INDY bowl would not choose us over OU......OU is a much better brand name right now for games.

Thanks for the responses. I can't see A&M falling to Texas Bowl.

Whats the chances of Arkansas going to Independence Bowl? If that fits, the Indy Bowl would love them due to proximity and fan base. and i don't think ANYONE wants to see a re-match. which means Indy would pass on Aggies, Texas bowl gets their wish.

animal,

that is the only scenario I can see A&M falling to the Texas Bowl - if independence takes arkansas.

personally, I think A&M winds up in the Independence Bowl vs South Carolina or Georgia.

So let's take a vote. Considering the chances of winning that game, which bowl would you realistically like the Aggies to go to?

+1 Independence

Much prefer Indy over Texas .... if we won we'd get more props for beating an SEC team than Navy .... and second, I think the Indy would be a bit more winnable. I think our d might do a bit better against a more conventional offense than a run heavy option style offense they just haven;t seen at all.

Based on who I think will win the remaining games, and that includes Texas being undefeated, I think this is how the bowls will go. For all the teams besides Texas, I have listed 2 games because I don't know if OSU can make the BCS

UT 13-0 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
OSU 10-2 FIESTA/COTTON
NU 9-4 COTTON/HOLIDAY
TTU 8-4 HOLIDAY/ALAMO
MU 8-4 ALAMO/SUN
OU 6-6 SUN/INSIGHT
TAMU 6-6 INSIGHT/INDEPENDENCE
ISU 6-6 INDEPENDENCE/TEXAS

This scenario involves Kansas losing this week and not making a bowl. If Kansas does make a bowl, and OSU does not make the BCS, it looks to me like a 6-6 team will be left out, or did I leave a bowl out?

a few more notes...

If the Independence Bowl gets Tennessee or Georgia as their SEC team, they may not worry about who comes from the Big 12. The stadium seats about 52,000.

Indy Bowl tickets are only $35

Iowa State played in the 2001 and 2004 Independence Bowls. Won the 2004 game.

W, do you feel given their recent trips to the Independence bowl, Iowa State would get the nod over A&M or would that hurt their chances as they've been there already a couple of times this decade?

I couldn't find the attendance numbers for ISU's 2 appearances. I think ISU would be very happy to go to Shreveport.

Tennessee has never played in the Indy Bowl. Georgia hasn't been there since 1991.

Sounds like Independence may then take ISU after all (and possible $$ from the Texas Bowl) to let A&M "slip" to Houston?

I prefere Reliant Stadium to the piece of crap stadium in Shreveport. Payouts would be about the same and A&M might make some money rather than spend money to travel to Shreveport. There is nothing to do in Shrecveport except gamble. There is no nightlife, clubs, fine dining, etc to do around the bowl game. Trust me I grew up there and thankfully no family is left there. I left in 86 and don't relish any trips back there. I would hope for an Insight bid before a trip to Shreveport.

The wild card is if OSU beats OU, will the Fiesta Bowl take OSU or a Big 10 team. I remember in 2007 the Rose Bowl took Illinois over serveral higher ranked teams out of loyalty to the Big 10. The Big 12 has been good to the Fiesta Bowl. They should give the bid to OSU over Iowa or Penn State.

tu to Sugar

If texas loses to and unranked a&m team and an unranked nebraska team, they will not be going to a BCS bowl

If we beat tu - Alamo

If we don't beat tu - Texas Bowl

BCS teams
Big 12 (Texas vs. Nebraska winner)
PAC 10 (Oregon vs. Oregon State winner)
SEC (Alabama vs. Florida winner)
Big 10 (Ohio State)
Big East (Cincinnati vs. Pittsburgh winner)
ACC (Georgia Tech vs. Clemson winner)

At large teams: TCU, Boise State

If Texas loses in the Championship, they will most likely have to fight a Big 10 school for that last spot. That will be the only way a second Big 12 school gets into the BCS bowl games. The loser of the Alabama/Florida matchup will take the last spot along with Iowa (most likely although Oklahoma State could jump them with a win over Oklahoma).

So the Big 12 picture (assuming Texas wins the championship) should look like this:

BCS National Championship Game: Texas
Cotton: Nebraska
Holiday: Oklahoma State
Alamo: Texas Tech
Sun: Missouri
Insight: Oklahoma
Independence: Texas A&M
Texas: Iowa State

Now if Texas gets beaten by Nebraska, it change and look like this (and this assumes Kansas beats Missouri):

BCS Game: Texas
BCS Game: Nebraska
Cotton: Oklahoma State
Holiday: Texas Tech
Alamo: Oklahoma
Sun: Missouri
Insight: Texas A&M
Independence: Iowa State
Texas: Kansas

Unless the bowl committee sells out for money (like our Senator Mary Landrieu did on the Health Care Bill), the only lower choice Big 12 team that the Indy Bowl would choose before A&M would be OU.

They may not take OU (after a very disappointing season) over A&M (with fans hungry for any bowl). Shreveport has the largest A&M Club outside of Texas, and DFW, Houston, and east Texas fans are within easy driving distance (I should know. I have been making the trip to College Station from near Shreveport for every home game for nearly 40 years).

Whose band do you really think the mildly interested local fan would like to see, ours or ISU/OU's. This matters to local fans that don't really care about either team.

My understanding is that the Texas Bowl and the Independence Bowl have the same payout but it costs us more to go to Shreveport. Thus if it is between those two we will go to the Texas Bowl.

No way a 2 loss OSU team who almost lost to A&M and beat CU only by 3 trumps an unbeaten TCU or Boise.

Only way Big 12 has 2 in the BCS is if NU upsets t.u.
