I'm lookng for some good local sports talk in Texas to steam on my iPhone and am curious what everyone's favorite station/show is. I live in San Antonio but don't mind Houston or Dallas talk (the SA stations seem weak). I'd prefer stations/shows that are not completely anti A&M.

Any suggestions?

To make this Aggie football related, I like shows where there is some Aggie football talk (aside from 1150 in B/CS).

Charlie Pallilo on 790AM out of Houston is the best, imho. He's on from about 3-7pm.

He talks local sports but isn't a native Houstonian, he went to Syracuse. He has a rediculous wealth of knowledge and simply just knows how to run a radio show. I'd definently give him a listen.

Dallas has 1310 The Ticket. One of the afternoon drive guys is somewhat of an Aggie fan.

1310 The Ticket out of Dallas (theticket.com). It's not sports talk 100% of the time though....but that's one reason I like it. There's a lot of inside jokes but you'll get more of them as you listen more. All of the shows are from local hosts. They don't cut away to a generic national host at any point during the day. Lots of stations around the country have tried to copy them because their ratings are crazy high.

I have become addicted to John and Lance on 1560 "The Game" out of Houston.

1310 the Ticket in Dallas is by far the best station I've ever heard...and I've heard them all over.

H-town's 1560 The Game is quite nice... Especially on Wednesday when they are discussing college Football, in the afternoon.

If you're one of those dewshers who likes sports talk constantly, non-stop, no humor, and with a bunch of idiots calling in, then I would say any radio station in Houston or 103.3 in Dallas would be good for you.

If you don't mind segments that have nothing to do with sports, and hate shows based around people calling in, then 1310 in Dallas is for you. Every other sports station wishes they had half the ratings the Ticket does, and there's a reason.

103.3 in Dallas blows. Michael Irvin show is probably the worst on the radio and insults my intelligence. I used to listen to it during commercials on the Ticket. Do yourself a favor: just listen to the commercials.

I'll give my 2 cents about the "amazing" ticket.

My roommates have been trying to get me to isten to it for over a year, and I have just never "gotten" it for some reason. I may not listen enough to get all the inside jokes, but I don't want to listen to talk radio to get inside jokes. I like the drops, but other than that I think the humor is nothing special and the actual content is pretty average at best. I know a lot of people like it though because of the high ratings - I have no idea how. Maybe so many Aggies like it becuase it is like a cult, and I bet the ratings are so high because of the online polls they do that TexAgs always dominates. Skewed results

I guess I am one of the "dewshers" that FPS mentioned. Mike and Mike are usually pretty entertaining and I make a point to listen to Cowherd (yes I know most people don't like him on here) because he talks sports, politics, current events, etc. He has some very unique opinions which I appreciate. Obviously that is not local, so it may not be what you want.

I will say the best local radio out there is Galloway and Co. on ESPN Dallas Radio on a Monday after the Cowboys lose. Always entertaining. Anytime other than a Monday without a Coboys loss they aren't that good.

So it sounds like the best choices in Houston are Palillo on 790 and 1560 overall and the ticket in Dallas?

I'm assuming there is nothing worth it on SA sports stations since I don't care for the Spurs.

charlie pallilo is the most intelligent and read-up talking head in the state of Texas, if not the nation. He's on Houston 790. Thing is, his show is pretty dry for those that like to talk about brangelina and dancing with the stars.

yes, Dallas has the highest concentration of d-bags outside of the west and east coasts. its that simple. I bet you also subscribe to US Weekly.

Someone's a little bitter...but hey, if non-stop sports talk, and listening to Bubba from the sticks call in with his idiotic opinion is your idea of good radio, more power to you.

Check out Houston's 1560 The Game. John Granato and Lance Earline (sp?) are pretty funny. It's considered "sports" radio, but think more "guy's" radio. Sort of like a radio version of Maxim.

outside of mike and mike, 103.3 in dallas is a joke of what it used to be. Irvin has no business being on the radio and Gallaway and Co are losing it. Whats worse for the espn radio in dallas are the idiots who call in with their insight. If actual college football insight is what you want then listen to the ticket.

If college football is your primary interest, check out 1560. John & Lance in the AM, Sean & John in the drive home.

They're fair to Ags and actually cover the program instead of just saying "they stink." One of their hosts is an Aggie (David Nuno). He hosts the TexAgs show at 7PM Thursdays and the SWC show on Mondays. Looch and Gabe Bock are frequent guests.

Marty B has his own segment on the ticket Tuesdays at 2... I think that means the ticket win outright.

Yeah, I would go with 1560 the game. Billy Liucci is on both Wednesday afternoons and Thursday evenings. Also, they have Wooley B on around 5:30 or so to discuss investments in football. He is pretty decent at picking winners and unlike many of the guys out there (like Brandon Lang) he is not tied to certain casinos or online betting sites, so he actually wants to try and provide you with winners.

I like 1560 The Game because it's as A&M friendly as it gets. It talks a lot of College which I love. Big fan of Nuno and he does have Looch. It's really done a lot better than 610 fans thought it would. I've lived everywhere in Texas too and the ticket is good for folks who love Cowboys/Rangers/Mavs and a little pro sports on a National level, it's not for you, but if you are not from there, you probably will go national on 103.3; The Ticket folks that live and die with it "most" have an affilation with being a Cowboys, Rangers, Mavs (OU/TU coverage in the little they speak about)

1560 The Game if you're a College fan.

Norm doesn't know football. Not a huge fan of the ticket but I don't hate it. By the way, if we win one more game, we exceeded his expectations of 3-9. Junior Miller is an absolute tool nerd too who doesn't know ****. Bob and Dan are okay but this station is for DFW folks.

I can't stand Brando's "personal LSU agenda" but The Game now has him but the good thing about Brando is he talks a ton of CFB so again, if you enjoy CFB, another reason there. I hate some of his opinions, but he'l keep you intersted and he hates and rags on ESPN so that's always nice too.

And he's not a TU Honk like Cowherd.

I think we all know where I stand on this subject.
I really enjoy working with Marc Vandermeer and one of our goals brought up in every meeting is to hit college sports HARD.
I grew up loving it and covered national college football for a decade, traveling to the biggest games in the country every week, before becoming a columnist and radio host.
Obviously, I hit the Aggies harder than 610 ever has, but we cover everything ... today's 10 a.m. hour, for example, was dedicated exclusively to the BCS and college football talk.
We like to have our fun, too.
Thanks.

another thing, ESPN radio and 610 are good if you want all day coverage of Cowboy or Texan practice and the future of the spread offense.

the ticket is great because they mix it up, you will get 2 segments in a row about football, then baseball, then entertainment stories, then movie review, etc.
