I'm a gray area Aggie since 1975.

The students that attend A&M Galveston receive the same diploma we do and get the same Aggie rings that we do. The only difference is that their diploma says "Given under this seal of the University at Galveston(instead of CS), Texas..."

This is a 20 year old incorrect statement.

Related, my son got a recruiting pitch from University of Michigan-Flint, and one of their points of emphasis was that "students get the same prestigious University of Michigan degree"

No. But closer than A&MIslander with his one class is.

And bc his dad is, according to the thread, that gets you bonus points.

It's depressing to see many people haven't grown up in twenty years. There are people with Aggie rings who are terrible Aggies and complete ****s. There are people who don't have rings who are the best Aggies you are ever going to meet and love this university completely. The ring signifies you are a graduate of Texas A&M. You demonstrate being an Aggie in many more ways than just owning a ring.

Yep.

Are the bonfire victims Aggies?

Something for those that hold the "must graduate to be an Aggie" position to think about.

And no, that's not different.

It's simple for me: are they an Aggie when our football isn't having a good year? If someone buys gear, goes to games, and they are loyal, I'll call them Aggies. There are lots of good Ags out there who don't have a degree from A&M.

An Aggie to me is someone who attended and or graduated from the university. Everyone else is a "fan". I believe in the saying, once an Aggie always an Aggie. People that go to the other schools are in the system but are not Aggies. I'm not saying I'm better than those, I am simply giving my definition of what an "Aggie" is to me.

Couldn't have said it better myself…..

Well done.

I wonder if other school message boards have so many debates over the years about what constitutes a <school nickname>. It's not a really complex concept. School nicknames refer to either the athletic teams or the student body. So, quite obviously, a Texas A&M Commerce LION is not an Aggie. And a guy with a spirit tag who likes to try brag about being a bigger and more loyal Aggie football fan than anyone who actually attended the school? Definitely not an Aggie.

"After they've boosted all the rest, they will come and join the best....".

There is no more loyal Aggie than a convert. I welcome all who identify as Aggies. Those that don't have lost sight of the core values of the institution they claim to love.

If you don't have a ring or degree you are not an Aggie. Sorry

I attended A&M for 3 years (Class of 75). I had to drop out, for several reasons. I was a few credits short of 90, so I didn't get a ring. 15 years later, I graduated from UT-Permian Basin. I actually threw my UTPB diploma away. I am an Aggie in my heart and soul, and I totally disagree with people who say you have to be a graduate to call yourself an Aggie.

You have neither the ring or the degree. You are an Aggie fan

But wait.

You have an Ag Tag

That trumps the ring/degree requirement.
You are an Aggie

I had a very good question posed me yesterday.

A very good friend of mine graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He is the hugest Aggie fan, and loves everything Aggie, like all of us.

He asked me whether or not people who attend other A&M University System schools are considered Ags? I had never thought about it. My first thought would be YES since it is actually A&M owning and running the schools..

You arent an Ag just because you went to College Station right? I mean its basically being a fan, and there is the obvious connection of the A&M system

So are students of the Texas A&M University System all considered Aggies?

Any thoughts???
NO!
