Good one. I hope you realize that every sports board has this fascination.

Photo 7 of 12 shows her at the Miami game last year, does that mean she gets to visit CS the weekend of 9/20/08.

No I am not thinking of Lisa Guerrero. I specifically remember Andrews referring to the Arkansas Razorbacks as the Arizona Razorbacks not once but THREE TIMES in one game. She may have become a halfway decent interviewer (and that's being generous), but she knows zilch about sports.

no way. she's great at her job...better than many male sideline reporters.

She is pretty decent looking, but nothing to go crazy loco about. It's kind of like my years in mechanical engineering at A&M. Any decent looking girl automatically gained a point or two on the 0-10 system, simply due to lack of comparison. Sure if you put Erin next to a bunch of sweaty dudes and butch looking ladies she's looking pretty good. Put her on a Victoria Secret commercial and suddenly she's just "ok". It's all relative.

And to the guys on the board saying there are a lot of hotter girls to rant about. That is true, but name one that is involved in sports not from Russia. See what I mean? Lack of choices makes her hotter than she actually is.

Yep

I don't know that I've seen a female sideline reporter in college football, attractive or unattractive, who I thought was worth her paycheck. I think it's because they don't really know the game. And because they're women (especially the "hot" ones) they aren't expected to know the game. But you can't ask relevant questions if you don't know what play was just run or why it was that play and not something different, etc.

I know they all think they know it, and when they're just hanging out with the guys, they'll watch the games and pretend like they know the intricacies of what's going on, which is cute, but 99% of them really have no clue. I know lots of girls who enjoy watching football and follow their team religiously. But I've only met one female in my entire life who could actually sit down and talk intelligently about the game of football. Not a certain team or player or coach, but actual Xs and Os. And she was the granddaughter of a high school coach and the daughter of a college coach, so she had been around the game on different levels her whole life. She knew more about football than 90% of the guys I know. But that's an isolated incident, certaily not even close to being the norm.

Here in Houston they call that the Rice Syndrome. When there are no other good looking girls around to act as foils, average looking women get better looking. In San Antonio, they call it the Trinity Syndrome. The same principles apply to work.

It's not the Rice syndrome (but I've been there and agree with you wholeheartedly). People find Erin hot because guys (as much as many will deny it) aren't solely interested in the exterior. Here is a girl that is into sports, as well. So, she's hotter for that. There's a thread on the H&F forum right now titled "My New Tri Girlfriend". The girl on there would just be a kind of eh-sort-of-cute chick, but the fact that she works out like crazy and is a pro triathlete makes all us cyclists/runners/swimmers go crazy for her.

Amen, Jared. There are plenty of 6's and 7's that become more attractive than 8's or 9's simply because of who they are, as opposed to what they look like.

An Erin Andrews thread and only one pic, doesn't that violate some kind of rule?



As for the article, Andrew's looks probably did play some role in her hiring, but for the most part she is a decent side line reporter and generally knows her stuff.

Frankly, there are plenty of male reporters out there who are worse and more of a joke (think Tony Seragousa (sp?))

Which brings the other general source of bad sports reporters/announcers -- former players. Most are terrible.

i also voted "no". i don't think female reporters deserve MORE respect. they deserve the same amount of respect as a male reporter that does the same level of work. their sex shouldn't matter when determining how much respect they receive.

I hate to burst even more bubbles around here. But just because someone works in a booth, on a sports talk radio show or on a side line doesn't mean they love sports.

JT the Brick is nation wide on FOX Sports radio. He won a "smack off" on Jim Romes radio show years ago and got a gig with Fox. JT the Brick has BLOWN up and is very popular on Fox these days.

Anyways, JT talked about this topic one night over the radio. He said fans would be shocked on how many people in the business actually hate sports. He wouldn't name names but said well over half actually hate sports its just a job. he went into more details about why they went or ended up in that profession. But JT was a huge fan and still is of many pro teams and makes a great guy on radio because he is a real fan.

I guess this is another reason I could never get into the whole "ERIN ANDREWS IS SOOO FREAKING HOT" band wagon. When I see people behind the micro phone doing interviews and so forth I know that their simply doing a job and most likely hate sports as a whole.

You're on to something there- perhaps the There's Something About Mary Syndrome.

Pam Ward isn't a sideline reporter. She's a play-by-play announcer. There's no way in hell Erin Andrews or any other female sideline reporter could handle play-by-play for college football. Or any other sport, for that matter.

The ugly girls aren't hired because they're better. They're hired to keep the Martha Burke's of the world off the network's ass for only hiring eye candy.

Nobody is interested in anything any of them have to say. It's only a matter of whether they're pleasant to look at while spewing pointless drivel.
