there are nice parts, but on the whole its pretty unattractive.

Tech at least tries to apply a common architectural style across their campus and that is the only thing it has going for it.

^Tech isn't locked into an ugly 60s-70s design plan like we are. Not much we can do about it. They just experienced more relative growth later..

What annoys me most about our ugly campus is that IT DIDNT USED TO BE THAT WAY!

Just look at the historical pictures of the A&M campus from the library's collection. We had some really nice looking architecture that was destroyed and replaced by ugly brown boxes. Even the new buildings are going along with this theme. Just look at the new LSB. low, rectangular box. No attempt at anythign resembling classic collegiate architecture. I hate to say it, but Im highly jealous of Baylor and SMU's campuses.

Tech has buildings from that period, they just made sure they fit their scheme. Our administration wanted utilitarian buildings and didn't give a damn about aesthetics. Hence the campus we have today. We could have continued to build something along the style of the Old Animal Sciences building or the old Veterinary building (demolished). We just chose not to.

People who think Tech has an ugly campus simply hate Tech. That is my favorite campus in the big 12. They have great architecture throughout their campus and it all flow together very well.

Why did you come to A&M? The color or the education? SI is all about marketing sports and should be considered in such light....not serious at all.......

Animal Sciences building is pretty cool.

This has been said for some time now, but I never understood it. I always liked our campus as compared to old run down buildings that all look the same like you see at so many other colleges. Harvard would be a classic example of that. Sometimes, the architecture is interesting and beautiful, such as Rice and SMU for example, but its also a little boring because of the uniformity.

What A&M has is variety, diversity if you will. I guess that lack of uniformity is considered ugly, but personally, I like it. Plus I LOVE the oaks. How can you not like oaks?

I have no idea what it will look like, but at least it well help unify the layout of the campus.

Ugly? That's ridiculous. It is not a thing of beauty from an architectural standpoint but it certainly is not ugly. Had a master plan for
architecture been developed in the 1960s many buildings and the campus would have more "character." I'm quite proud to show our campus to visitors who come my way. I've yet to hear anyone say that the campus is "ugly." The campus is "impressive" in a positve meaning of the word. I'm content with the appearance of the campus even if the buildings are not clad in Austin stone--or some other stone--with ivy growing on the sides.

The malls to either side of the tower are very nice, IMO, the buildings all have the same southwestern style. I especially like how the landscape flows downhill to the fountains. The rest of the campus has the same drab 70's-80's brown box look to it that A&M's does though. UT made a lot the same sins that A&M did during the same period.

If A&M's campus all looked like Systems, the Academic building, the Animal Industries building, the original part of the psychology building, the original part of the geology building, Scoates, and Sbisa, it's be a much nicer place. Instead it's polluted with abominations like Harrington, Langford, and that enormous Stalinist wet dream tower with the huge rotating radar dish on top - the O&M Building. I actually saw them turn that thing on one time when I was a student - I was shocked because I didn't know that it was functional.

I always liked approaching the campus from the east, driving up University. The veiw of the campus from Texas and Univ is very impressive. Central campus around the MSC and the old Academic Bldg is old-skool-outstanding. The north end of Kyle field, by the MSC is great.
I have seen many many campuses that look waay worse than Aggieland.

The United States isn't half as scenic as most other countries in general. Doesn't mean we're not the best.

I thought Sports Illustrated was all about swimsuits. The last time I needed them for sports info was 1996.

This means we are investing money into our education, which is what really counts. As the saying goes, You can't judge a book by its cover. If you choose not to go to A&M simply by the way it looks, I don't know what to say.

The funny things is that they use the Bio/Bio building, which actually looks decent in that picture. They could have chosen far uglier buildings on campus.

that article means nothing... honestly houston has an awful campus and i'm sure a&m cannot be that bad

but yeah we could use some better looking buildings
