Whew! I have endured a big scare for the past couple of days ... when I attempted to log onto my favorite website for historic maps and other great stuff about Texas, I was getting some oddball site. I was afraid
Maps of Texas located at Austin had gone out of business. An explanation is now posted on the site at their url ...
http://www.mapsoftexas.com/I have purchased about a dozen copies of
Lone Star as gifts for family and friends ... and almost as many sets of Texas maps from Maps of Texas to accompany the books.
The maps available are great to accompany the book. A portfolio from the Texas State Historical Society contains about 15 maps from the 1600s to Republic of Texas days. Others in the folio show the development of counties from earliest times of the State to modern times. Included in a package are a Pocket Map dated in the 1880s that the folks used to venture into the Texas frontier and a Railroad Map of about the same period.
In addition, that site has a good selection of prints, framed and unframed, and all the Texas flags.
The fellow who owns the shop worked for several years at the General Land Office in the map department so you are dealing with an expert ... and a very nice person.
If you are interested use the link above to track his getting back on line ... or give him a call. This is a great resource for those interested in Texas history.
