I recall that the guns were canted inward to converge at a certain distance ahead of the fighter. I think it varied, but let's say it was 500 feet. So theoretically, if he were 500 feet behind, al the bullets would be hitting one spot a few inches across.
The weirdest thing to me about this story is how the DC 3 pilots ignored the fighter, even after he took out one engine. What were they thinking?
