Does anyone on here actually believe this theory? It seems implausible but I want it to be true so bad

I highly doubt LBJ pulled the trigger himself.

NO. He was too busy setting up the fake moon landing site in Ariz on orders of the alien crop circle builders living in area 51 AND having lunch with the Tri-Lateral Elders of Zion at the Bilderberg Garden Hotel......

No question that LBJ was one of the scummiest politicians of his era. I highly doubt he had a hand in the assassination. I am also quite positive that given his sliminess he probably had to contain a grin as he heard the news of JFK's death.

Scummy? He wasn't setting up assassinations of foreigners like his predeccor or running a burglary ring out of the White House like his successor or sharing a gf with a mafia boss or getting bj from an intern or ignoring the congress, etc.

he was a crude Texan who knew how to work both parties to get the sausage made. Nobody will ever forgive him

He stole an election for Senator in the Democratic primary. See numerous jokes about dead people voting for him, etc etc. Billy Sol Estes anyone? His conduct of the Vietnam war was almost criminal in its silly ROE and his micromanaging of it. He was scummy, and yes scummier than Clinton and JFK. Nixon, maybe not.

That's not even to mention his accumulation of wealth by having jobs such as school teacher, congressional aide, Senator, VP, and President. A living? Yes. Good living? Maybe after federal office, but the wealth he accumulated solely by salary and good money management? Don't be an idiot.

Involved in JFK's death? IF any, it was only a tacit nod. I don't think he was surprised in the least when it did happen.

LBJ's money came from his marriage to Ladybird.

I'll defer to Caro's version of the truth.

but if it makes you feel better, no way LBJ had any thing to do w JFKs death

I'm confused. I was referring to his wealth. Are you claiming he got rich from killing JFK?
huisachel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He got rich from Lady Bird owning a radio station/television station. She got that by some clever maneuvering from her husband.
Read A Texan Looks at Lyndon for the details of this and other Johnson misdeeds.

As for Caro, he got a lot right but he blew it on the Box 13 episode. Johnson didn't steal the election, Parr did in order to pay back Coke Stevenson, who had got huge margins in Parr's bailiwick before and then declined to appoint the man whom Parr wanted installed as DA in Laredo. You didn't do that to Parr and not suffer some blowback. And Stevenson was one of Parr's favored candidates until his lack of loyalty in Webb County led Parr to hate him and want to destroy him. Which he did. Lyndon Johnson was the beneficiary of Parr's revenge, not the author.

J. Evetts Hailey was one of the best historians to ever come out of this state and he self published his attack on Johnson in 1964 and practically gave it away during the Goldwater campaign. The Palo Duro Press still has the record for the biggest political book by the smallest publishing company.

Larry L. King, the author of The Best Little *****house In Texas, volunteered to work for LBJ because he feared Goldwater's conservatism and was given the job of discrediting A Texan Looks at Lyndon. King later wrote that after reviewing Haley's book thoroughly, he concluded that every word in it was true.

Woo-hoo, a shout out to my homie, J. Evetts. There's still a Haley Road southwest of Canyon. Don't know which house was his. And of course, his masterwork in the Goodnight biography.

Dad had one of the LBJ books 'back in the day'. I'll have to check and see if it's still in Mom's bookshelf.

So you think Haley's A Texan Looks at Lyndon is accurate? I thought it had been dismissed as a partisain screed. Good to know otherwise. I'll have to read it if I find it.

On a side note, Potter and Randall counties were Republican strongholds during the LBJ years. It gave rise to the Urban Legend that LBJ closed Amarillo AFB in retaliation.

I'm about as anti-Lyndon as they come. Huisache can deny it, but scumbag is appropriate. He stole an election, pandered to blacks while calling them the N-word as soon as they left the room, treated people like dog meat and would have lied, cheated or sold his Grandmother's jewelry.

But he didn't kill JFK.

Lee Harvey Oswald, and no one else, did.

Re reading my post, I don't see where I weighed in on the scumbag issue. He was a very adroit one.

my parents ran a business in jim wells county and both siblings worked and lived in duval. And I've known every lawyer who has practiced in either county and all the parr watchers say parr got Stevenson for the webb county betrayal, not out of love for lbj.

as for stealing an election, JFK's daddy and mayor Daley stole Illinois in 1960 and that put his reckless son in the wh. As scumbags go, my money is on dashing jack.

regarding LBJ's Silver Star..... go do a little readin up on his "award". John Kerry's paper cut on his pinkie as a reason for his PH was more valid than " Landslides" Silver Star.

Good point. I guess another reason I am so pissed at LBJ is that he foisted the Great Society programs on us as well. Programs that are now driving us to the poor house.

agreed. From a legacy standpoint, you can argue he is the worst President ever.

We've had other crappy Presidents, but usually after they leave office their impact is not felt. LBJ's legacy continues to rot the under class of society.

Gotta admit....I've never heard any stories like this about him.

Is this a documented fact somewhere, or did he just like telling people about it? What's this whole story?

huisachel

As a percentage of the national budget, the Great Society's share is not significant enough to merit mention, except for Medicare, which is the second most popular government program. It has prolonged the lives of millions of people who could not afford to be insured in the market.

My family had a grocery store in a poorer part of our rural small south Texas town and I recall the period when the Great Society first kicked in-----people who were eating raw peanuts for Christmas dinner one year were buying decent food from us the next. Not everyone who was poor was that poor but the decrease in absolute misery was striking. The problem with the GS is that it has become a hammock rather than a safety net for some. That can be cured under the right political situation but is not likely----the dems want to keep it in place and the gop doesn't want to upset the underclass. They might vote then.

The Gingrich led reforms during Clinton's administration were a good first step but it was marched backwards after the 2008 collapse.

Stive, read Caro. Lyndon liked to whip it out and referred to it as "Jumbo."

I'm not sure if that's worse than forcing his aides to follow him into the restroom and listen to his thoughts as he defecated.

He signed the Civil Rights Bill. That alone eliminates him from being the worst President ever from a legacy impact standpoint

He did not just sign the civil rights and voting rights acts, he was the chief catalyst for them in the government.

I occasionally hunt at Parr's ranch near Benavides. His nephew owns it.

Johnson was everything cited, good and bad, and more.

There was little he was incapable of. But he had nothing to do with JFK's death.

Anyone familiar at all with Johnson's life will realize he was a physical coward and would NEVER have approved an action which would have placed his person in any proximity of harm's way.

The one thing above all others that has assured Johnson's huge historical stature, IMO, -- for good or bad -- was stated above by huisachel in, I think, the most succinct and accurate definition of LBJ I've read: he "got the sausage made".
