Was watching an old History Channel special on the industrial side of WWII airplane production, and they mentioned that NAA had a production facility in Grand Prairie that made B-24s and P-51s. I have been unable to find the exact area it was located at, and am curious if any of you guys know anything about it.

Odds are, it's long gone, but you never know...

Looks like it's still there.

I was getting similar results when I was googling, but what did it was finding out about the Dallas Naval Air Station, which is adjacent to this factory. Apparently Vought moved in shortly after WWII, and that location is now their world headquarters.

The last aircraft to come out of that plant was the A-7 Corsair.

My grandfather spent a lot of time there in the late 40's and early 50's first in the Naval Reserve and later working for Chance-Vought for a while.

I had the opportunity to run a research radar on the field back in 2005. He described the base to me over the phone and many of the structures are the same as they were 50 years ago.

The runways were closed when we were there, and the only flying was being done by some CH-47s based there to train pilots from Singapore.

My grandfather worked there on the P-51 line during the war.

So did mine... his group assembled the wings.

My grandma was the administrative assistant to the president.

My mother worked 2nd shift at the Chance Vought plant in Bridgeport, Connecticut where they made the Corsair gull wing. As a kid I remember her telling me they eventually shut that facility down and moved to Texas. Sounds like both plants were operational at the same time.

I knew about AT-6s and P-51s during WWII, but I did not know NAA built B-24s at the Dallas plant. Were they complete airplanes or just components sent to the Consolidated plant in Fort Worth?

had an uncle that worked at the plant in grand prairie. He said they worked something like 6 am to 3 or 4pm. They would go sleep a few hours after work and then go party it up all night, every night. That was a guy who knew how to live...even up into his retirement years.
