50 year old here and I'm wondering what the best multivitamin is on the market?

You'll get a lot of opinions. You can pay a bunch of money for things like AG1 or multivitamins with the methylated versions of the primary vitamins. From what I've read, some people see a benefit from them but it's money down the drain for the vast majority of people. My PCP ran a few tests(homocysteine and a few others) and concluded that I'd be fine saving the cash.

This is the one I've used for the last 3-4 years and my bloodwork always comes back in the recommended ranges.

if you are just looking for a general MV,
then any MV will work

like the one linked above, they all have lower (supplemental) doses of multiple supplements combined into one convenient pill

if you are looking for something specific (like super greens, beet, etc), then that would alter the approach

I've never been a doc to endorse any vitamins but I started this one years ago and let it run out for a while and I could really tell a big difference in my post clinic energy levels so I'm sticking with it.

Most vitamins are synthetically made and aren't very bioavailable for your body to absorb. I would focus on a healthy diet.

My PCP tells me multivitamins are a waste. Too dense for body to absorb and just leads to more expensive pee

Who knows…

Any thoughts on methylated vitamins? I have heard Gary Brecka and others recommending them.

Here's what CoPilot tells me:

Quote:

Methylated multivitamins offer several advantages, especially for individuals who have difficulties with nutrient absorption or specific genetic mutations. Here are some key benefits:
[ol]
  • Enhanced Bioavailability: Methylated vitamins are in a form that the body can use immediately, making them more easily absorbed and utilized.
  • Energy Support: Methylated B12 (methylcobalamin) is particularly beneficial for combating fatigue and supporting energy levels.
  • Mood and Clarity: Ingredients like methylated B6 (P-5-P) and methylated folate (methylfolate) can help maintain mental clarity and emotional balance.
  • Support for Genetic Mutations: Individuals with MTHFR gene mutations may have trouble converting standard vitamins into their active forms, making methylated vitamins a better option.
  • Aging Support: As natural absorption decreases with age, methylated vitamins can help ensure older adults get the nutrients they need.
  • Chronic Illness Management: Those with long-term health issues may experience better nutrient absorption with methylated vitamins.

Bought a bottle based on your comments. It might be the Placebo Effect but dang I feel better and have more energy. At 69 this is a good thing!

Was taking Centrum Silver for men before these.

Glad it is working for you. Like I said I'm not sure why that particular vitamin seems to work but man I can tell a difference when I run out.

I'm guessing something in the blends at the end are responsible for the energy. The types of those vitamins are the cheaper and less bioavailable types and aren't anything special. I'm glad it's working for folks though.

Ex. There are more bioavailable versions than cyanocobalmin(B12), calcium carbonate, zinc oxide, etc.

The one I take is at a similar price point and with the exception of folate has the same cheap stuff, so I'm not knocking it. I'm just opining on what might be causing the effects described here.

Grok's take on the energy level stuff…

The "Antioxidant Fruit and Energy Blend" in the Vimerson Health Multivitamin for Men includes several ingredients that could potentially increase energy levels either directly or indirectly through various mechanisms:

Green Tea Extract: Contains caffeine, which is a well-known stimulant that can boost energy levels and alertness. It also includes catechins like EGCG, which can enhance metabolic rate and fat oxidation, potentially leading to a feeling of increased energy.
Hawthorn Berries: While primarily known for supporting heart health, hawthorn can improve blood flow and circulation, which might indirectly boost energy by ensuring better oxygen delivery to muscles and organs.
Cinnamon Bark Extract: Cinnamon can help regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity. Stable blood sugar can prevent energy dips, providing a more consistent energy supply throughout the day.
Bilberry Fruit Extract: Rich in antioxidants, bilberry can support cardiovascular health, which might help in sustaining energy levels by ensuring efficient nutrient and oxygen delivery.
Grape Seed Extract: Contains flavonoids like oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes (OPCs) which have antioxidant properties that can help in reducing oxidative stress, potentially leading to better energy utilization.
Black Currant Fruit Extract: High in vitamin C and antioxidants, it might help with energy by supporting immune function and reducing inflammation, which can sap energy.
Pomegranate Fruit Extract: Contains antioxidants that could help reduce fatigue by minimizing oxidative damage to cells. It also supports heart health, potentially leading to better energy distribution.

    These ingredients work synergistically:

Direct Energy Boost: The caffeine from green tea can provide an immediate lift in energy.
Sustained Energy: By supporting metabolic health, reducing inflammation, and aiding in blood sugar regulation, the blend can contribute to longer-lasting energy throughout the day.
Antioxidant Support: Reducing oxidative stress helps in maintaining cellular energy production efficiency.

However, the actual impact on energy levels can vary widely depending on an individual's baseline health, diet, lifestyle, and how their body metabolizes these compounds. Also, the concentration of these ingredients in the blend isn't specified, which would affect their potency. If you're sensitive to caffeine or have concerns about how these might interact with your health or medications, consulting with a healthcare provider would be wise.
