Agree with PUTU and also, what is the goal and plan to get there?

Closing in on 5000 miles for the year. PR'd my 70.3 distance in 2024. IM Texas in April.

My goal in 2025 is to mix in a lot more strength and core work into my training in addition to the endurance.

I never got New Year's resolutions, if it is important enough to do why not start now? Large part of the reason 80-90% of them fail.

and "great shape" is such a generalized term. What do you really want to do? I've always been active to some degree, but my goals have varied over the years. Currently, at 48, I lift 4 times a week with my 15 year old son, who is just now starting his journey into powerlifting. I don't compete, haven't for years, but we do the same workouts mostly, and I chase numbers with him, as it gives me something to work towards. I don't go all out anymore and I listen to my body and know when to back off, but I'll do it as long as my body continues to cooperate.

Find something specific that motivates you and that keeps you going.

Break 1,000 miles running (should break 700 this year).

Drop another 20ish or so pounds. I've lost close to 75 in the past 18 months. Slowed down over the past 6 but it's cool.

Finally get back to benching 315. Been stuck at 275 since shoulder injury.

  • Weight back down to 180s (ten down, 40 lbs to go)
  • No alcohol - (43 days and counting now)
  • Heavy lifts 3X per week
  • Half marathon
  • Century ride (that may be a reach for me)
