Long Version: https://texags.com/forums/12/topics/3382287/replies/65024002

Short Version: Bike ride. Guy lost control and wiped me out. Instead of skidding on the ground and burning off energy, I landed just right and transferred all of my energy into my hip and ended up with (quoting the medical records I just received from the hospital): Left comminuted acetabulum fracture of anterior and posterior wall extending to left iliac wing, and Left comminuted inferior pubic ramus fracture.

ETA: For what it's worth, I was moved to in patient rehab 3 days later, and have been doing PT ever since.

Any advice on helping with tricep tendinitis? Just one arm, no pain directly associated with it but my elbow keeps getting pointier. Met with Ortho and all was fine but X-ray confirmed.

I've seen some stretches and modified cable movements to "stretch" the tricep tendon. Any recommendations?

This is same arm that I have had distal clavicle osteolysis and am wondering if this is somehow connected. I'm also concerned something in my program, aside from general overuse, like a shoulder instability/imbalance is contributing to the problem.

If you know of a good sports related PT person on the west side of Houston (Katy), I'd greatly appreciate the recommendation.

What does your program look like? Do you want to use your insurance or pay cash for PT?

Program is built essentially on strength training but I have some components of bodybuilding as the last 2 programs I did were from John Meadows.

My program now is basically a push-pull-legs split with the first 3 days emphasis on heavy lifts and the second half emphasis more on shorter rest and machine type workouts. I try and alternate dumbbell bench press and barbell to potentially alleviate some of the strain on my elbow but not sure it really makes a difference. My heavy bench days are a pretty substantial amount of weight doing sets of 3x3, 3x4, or 3x5. Very rarely (1 time in the last 3 years) have I gone close to a 1RM.

I'm also dealing with a little bit of golfers/tennis elbow in same elbow and have been trying to incorporate more exercises on my forearms to help with that.

I am not going to promise that my form is perfect on bench but I really emphasize control, elbow position, and roll and lock my lats for bench. If anything I think the triceps tendonitis is from overuse and/or some sort of lingering shoulder issue where my triceps were overworked on that arm.

Regarding PT - I have been a few times for other things and it has been good. What I am not looking for is being in PT with a bunch of older people that just got a hip or kneed replacement and that's is the practice's primary focus. Please don't take that the wrong way and in no way am I saying there is anything wrong with that, I am just looking for someone that is more aligned with understanding active recovery and/or athletic induced injuries, if that makes sense?

I am assuming that likely fall out of pocket and I am okay with that. I am really more concerned with addressing the root cause than I am treating the symptoms.

I don't take offense to the statement about old people and hip/knee replacements. I don't work with that crowd either but there is for sure a need for it. You sound like you need a PT who has a strong lifting background. Let me do some research in your area and get you some options.

Has your volume changed recently? Would you mind sending me some videos of you lifting so we can an idea of your form and if it is contributing to your issues in any way?

That is exactly what I would like to find - Thank you!

I'll work on getting some videos for you. Probably won't be until next week though.

Thanks again for your help!

Wow. That is rough. Glad it wasn't more serious. This will be a long recovery with how involved this is. I wish you well.

What about leg workouts for people with bad knees? My fiance sounds like she has Rice Krispies when she stands up and says she has knee pain. I have bad knees but have just gotten used to it and strengthened the area around my joints

Cycling is a great workout for the knees without the load on them. Stair stepper is a nice option if they can tolerate that as well. Body weighted squats with TRX and really getting strong in the hamstrings is usually an area people could benefit from working.

Any tips for stubborn flexor carpi ulnaris pain?

Tried stretching several times a day for a week, myofascial releases with baseball, tens unit, nsaids, bracing… my next step is collagen supplement.

Issue is really triggered after a long session playing guitar.

See a hand therapist. If you can find one who also plays the guitar that would be ideal. How long are these sessions? Have you taken time off and now just getting back?

Appreciate the help! I forgot to film yesterday but will try again on Thursday. I have been really emphasizing stretching the tricep tendon with bands and cables via slow and controlled eccentric. That seems to really work and is sort of kicking my butt right now.

About 1.5-2hours.

Yes getting back into things… about a year ago.
But didn't have this problem until recently.

I think cutting down the sessions in chunks to make it more manageable might be a good start. I used to play guitar quite a bit my hands would hurt after more than an hour. I used to have to work on my wrist mobility as well in order to comfortably get my hands around the neck of the guitar

Not sure if you're still checking this thread, but I have a question.

I've been having a ton of clicking/grinding in my left knee when I walk. It's completely painless, but concerns me a little. I'm very fit and active and have never really injured this knee that I'm aware of. Doesn't bother me when squatting or with any explosive movements.

It's hard for me to pinpoint where it is clicking in the joint. Feels slightly medial but feels pretty deep in the joint as best I can tell.

I have some squat wedges I bought to do Knees Over Toes Guy "Patrick Step" and those seem to resolve it immediately after the exercise. Basically one foot is on a wedge elevated 4-6" off the ground and you lower your opposite heel to the ground like going down a step.

Any thoughts?

Work on your ankle mobility to begin with if the wedges help. Could be some bony changes behind the kneecap based on your description.

Thanks. I had guessed a torn meniscus but someone else suggested a patellar tracking issue. Your thought makes sense. I think my ankle mobility is really good but I will look into that, too. Thanks.

Began having elbow pain on my left elbow (I'm right handed). Pain is inside the elbow on the bony point. It's a burning pain. When under stress is quite painful and limits lifting even light weight.

This started several months ago when doing biceps curls. I took time off on that arm. It's just not going away though.

What can I do to make it better?

What's your setup on curls? Preacher? Standard curls with palms up?

Standard with palms up.

I've had no swelling.

Sounds like golfers elbow. Check out Tylers twist exercises on YouTube and order a TheraBar set to do the exercises.

Getting old sucks. But got a question. Having some pain over my right greater trochanter. Specifically it actually feels a little inferior & posterior to the greater troch. Worse with walking, as well as standing and shifting my hips laterally towards the right (kinda like a standing Ober's test, I think). Not super tender on palpation of the are, definitely worse with activity/hip shifting I described above.

Was recently having some right knee pain while running, assuming it to be a glute med problem, and started doing 1 legged stepdown on stairs and some side planks/leg lifts. I think that triggered it.

Given it's not particularly tender, and not directly over the trochanter, I think bursitis is less likely. The only other think I can think of is a tendinopathy at the insertion of the glute med?

Any other thoughts on what it could be? Was trying to just rest it out, but no improvement after about 10 days. Should I start gluteal stretching/foam rolling? Continue to lay off lateral hip strengthening (glute med and such)?

Thanks

Sounds like glut medius tendonitis based in what you described. Get some tissue work in the area and start back with clamshells once it calms down.
