Went to PT yesterday. He said my issue is due to lack of hip mobility. Did some dry needling then shock therapy in my hips followed by some exercises. I go back for more Friday.

He said I could run as long as I'm not in pain. Told me to try running 2 miles, then walk. If no pain, can add additional intervals of 2 miles.

Hey man, you know a bit of my history including pain in my upper left back and neck. The pain has pretty much migrated into the left shoulder and upper part of the arm. Also having chills running through the arm. It can be honestly debilitating at times. Little bit of weakness/numbness on that side, but no real loss in range of motion.

Saw my GP last week and asked for a referral to orthopedics as the first step. Anything I should ask directly about?

When can I get an MRI scheduled?
And who should I consider seeing for an injection if there is significant issues there?

Asking you since you're in Austin and local to me (wish my sister wasn't in the DFW or I'd get more help her, she's a PT)

40yr, overweight and could do better with diet and exercise( that's going to be worked on).

Been a lifelong shoulder issue/pain. As well as knee issues.

For the shoulder, have been told tendinitis of the long bicep in the shoulder. Any X-rays haven't shown any problems. The pain is mostly an overall ache/inflammation with some waves of more intense pain and some of that slight burning sensation. Most front and top middle areas and internally. Went to the Direct Ortho Clinic yesterday, thinks it's a labrum issue and mri is next week. Repetitive motions are hell, and turning a pipe wrench at every angle while hunched over in water meter pits is worse. Been constant pain for the last week plus.

Right knee, to a lesser degree the left also, I deal with tendinitis of the patellar area, possible arthritic pain. With the right I also have a tear in the medial meniscus on the outside edge, that does catch from time to time and makes life hell. The left also has a probable similar tear, just have never been in bad enough pain to do a mri.

My question is do you you have any recommendations for decent orthopedic doctor in the Austin region? Would like to get a 2nd opinion after this shoulder mri, depending what they say. Also, would like to find a place that I can start to go through long term treatments to finally try to get my issues under better pain management and possibly more tolerable.

Sounds you have had a rough go of it lately. Sorry to hear that. With respect to orthopedics I like Dr. Robert Graham or Dr. Carolyn Hyde for shoulders. For knees, Dr. Sean Gallagher is a solid choice. I know that might not be the most convenient to go to separate places but Austin a tricky town with medical care in my opinion.

For the pain management route I would consider seeing Dr. Brad Fullerton at ProloAustin or Dr. David Harris at CHARM. They don't do traditional pain management in the sense of just handing out pain pills and doing injections.

But if you really need to go down that road Dr. Pena is a good option at Texas Spine and Scoliosis. I believe he treats more than just the spine.

Got a recommendation for txortho and Dr. Barbara Bergin. Know anything about her

Not sure. Can't afford to not work. Going to talk with work and see if I can go back to my normal job function, which is much less stress on the shoulder.

Want to try PT first to strengthen the shoulder.

Hiya,

Any exercises/ stretches I can do to target increased range of motion in right shoulder? It's pretty back i. My neck area too, so I'm thinking that the tightness in my shoulder and radiating? Up to my neck.

Thanks!

Have you tried using a Theracane? It's a great tool to be able to reach these places as well as the stretches that I posted as well.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

I have not, but have heard good things about it. I have a percussion gun but the handle and the angle are weird so I can't hit the problem spot…

Yeah, the percussion tools are nice but can't reach certain places in the middle and upper back areas real well.

I see that there's two shapes of the theracane, do you recommend one over the other?

As long as it is one solid piece then it doesn't really matter. Some other brands come in two pieces to make it more portable for travel bu tthey aren't that big.

If anyone in the Austin area is need of physical therapy I can treat most things. If i can't help you, I'll point in you in the direction of someone who can.

It's that time of the year. I would once again like to offer my services to you the Health and Fitness degenerates who can't seem to stay healthy.

If you have any injuries you are dealing with feel free to post here and I'll do my best to answer them.

Just wanted to say thanks again for help and advice. Even though I only visited once and wasn't able to visit the suggested Doc's, it's good to have something in the back pocket.

Thanks for this. Can you offer any advice around correcting anterior pelvic tilt? I've suffered some lower back issues in the past. Back pain has been better unless I sit for long periods but the pelvic tilt has gotten worse.
I typically lift/run for exercise but don't really know what to do to get this problem fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any recommendations for shoulder mobility and stability work?

Most of 2021 my right shoulder was nagging me. I've always had pretty good shoulder health but something happened in early 2021 right after a ski trip. I think I got my arm caught a little behind me on a tight tree run but I'm not positive.

Right now my shoulder can give me minor problems trying to sleep in certain positions, reaching all the way behind my back and sometimes on barbell bench press. Overhead press doesn't seem to be as bad.

TIA!

2 separate issues I'd appreciate recommendations for:

1) tennis elbow. Been bothering me for about 8 months to the point that some days I can't even pick up a cup of coffee.
2) sciatica pain

I've had shoulder pain for about 2 months. Right shoulder. I fell hard on my right side while backpacking. No immediate pain but began to hurt a few days afterwards. Don't notice it much during the day. I'm a side sleeper so sleeping on my right side is very uncomfortable. This is when I really notice the pain. It's enough to keep me awake.

It hurts when I put on a belt. I tried throwing a ball with my grandson last week and that was not happening. What do you recommend for rehab?

I'm just going to say what I'm thinking.

What would cause a pain around my taint/behind testicles when starting the upward/concentric movement at the bottom of a back squat? I've always focused on firing the hips/glutes and this has started happening recently.

Sports hernia would be my guess. I'm not a doctor, but I, unfortunately, know that one well. Nerve entrapment is another possibility.

derelict can likely give better info and break down the options though.

I got pain behind both knees. Just started cycling again. Did I push it too hard? Will a knee brace help when I ride? Currently icing them. Thanks.

Looks like doc got busy. Anyone else had to deal with Anterior Pelvic Tilt? I'd rather not pay money to correct this if I don't have to. I've done a google search and tried some things to no avail.

I have had success in the past with foam rolling to help with APT. Have you tried that?
