I've done a good job of being pretty moderate. I am going every day, but my focus is limited. In the past I've tried to go too hard and progress too fast.
Typically I do 9-12 working sets, focusing on a single muscle group. Main lifts advancing a steady pace of 5 lbs a week until I hit some benchmarks and then will taper down the progress.
Simple stuff. Bench press, deadlift, chin ups, overhead press, and squat.
