Yeah, the "day off" is always going to be relative to what your typical day or week is like. I am sure you have recovery days and weeks built into your program, so taking it the day after a LSD recovery ride or in place of a shorter more intense leg workout is probably the best you can do for your situation. But since you are training pretty much all the time, it will still be an accurate representation of your fitness level that you can work with.

I see posts in the power zone pack facebook group where people are saying things like "I have been riding every day for the last nine months and my ftp has plateaued. What do I do?" What you find when they start answering questions is that they have been doing 30-60 mins of hard intense rides every day for 6 months because they were "maintaining a streak". Which is something Peloton rewards you for, but that I think they ought to modify, because it can promote overtraining in folks who don't understand the concept of recovery days. They are doing their FTP test the day after a hard ride, and are surprised when all their body wants to do is go exactly as hard as it has every other day for the last 6 months.

I think Peloton really has an opportunity that they are missing on to give people cues about that kind of thing. They have all of this data about how people are riding, and they could easily send out an alert saying "Hey, we see you have been riding really hard for the last X days (or weeks). Here is an article about the benefits of recovery in a training program, and here are some easy low impact rides you could use for that." The power zone instructors do a good job talking about it in their rides, but I think that message gets missed alot on the broader peloton community.

has there been any mention of riders live in studio again?

Gave it a little squeeze yesterday and set a new 45 minute PR. My goal is to get to 800, but inching closer.

I was wondering about the in person live rides as well.

It would be awesome to see Peloton partner with Training Peaks (like Wahoo & Sufferfest) to integrate a fitness/fatigue graph. It could encourage users to push for a certain TSS/day to improve fitness or cut back because their fatigue numbers are getting too high.
When browsing for classes, the difficulty number could be accompanied with an estimated average TSS based on the rider's history so whether or not you needed to push for the upper end in the class or plan to double up classes that day.

Man that seems like so long ago. I have to think we are still a ways off being it's NYC.

The biggest thing is their business model is not built around having people in the studio -- so there is no incentive to bring them in until its acceptable.

Yeah I thought maybe before the year ended they would have people but with Delta and it being NYC I can see it dragging on longer.

Yeah, they are pretty much the king of the indoor bike market, and I think they could completely lock that in for a long time by building a partnership with a high quality training outfit like Training Peaks and allowing their platform to be used with Zwift. If you had a single platform where somebody could decide to hop on and do any of the amazing variety of classes they offer, OR go race on a real world course with pro athletes, OR work through a professionally developed training program to prepare for an event or race, they would own the indoor workout market even more than they already do.

Jesus.... I'm hitting 301 in my 30 minute rides with Ben... What is your mean Resistance and pace on a flat road? Need to benchmark myself.

Look at it this way: Nitro is in the top 1% of that class. Gauge your percentile based on a few finishes and overlay power zone with that. Should be a close benchmark.

Fair enough; I USUALLY finish in the top 5-8% all-time, but I always switch on the "who is riding now" leaderboard and work on passing people up...

Nitro what age range are you? 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s?

Mid 30's

As far as my flat road pace, I usually start warmup at 41-42 resistance 95-100 cadence

I know it's easy to get caught up in passing people up (who doesn't like competition)...but just focus on competing against yourself. For example if it's the send or third time you do a ride, compare that. That's a better barometer of where you are.

I will say, I got drilled the other day. Dude had 919 in a 45 minute endurance ride. I was around 660ish. That's pretty ridiculous

YMCA by the Village People should never, ever, be on a Peloton ride playlist.

I wouldn't hold my breath for Zwift integration. It doesn't gain Peloton users = sell more bikes; and Zwift probably doesn't want to give away thousands of free account access while taking on the additional server load.

Actually I think it would sell a bunch more bikes. Look back through the early parts of this thread at how many guys were saying "I don't really care about the instructors and classes and would rather ride a smart trainer with Zwift so I can compete with others. But my wife really wants a Peloton so she can do her spin classes at home." By offering both experiences through the same platform, you take away the need to choose one or the other. And for Zwift, who says they have to give it away for free? Why can't they still charge their membership fees, but just integrate the Peloton into their database of useable systems?

The way I see it, Peloton gets a bunch of people who are holdouts against buying into their bike/membership because they want the competitive experience to get off the fence and buy a bike, while Zwift immediately gains access to a huge group of potential subscribers who already own Peloton bikes but are wanting something different after hundreds of classes.

100% agree with this. Peloton pretty much owns their market. Best way to grow will be to reach new markets. I was one who held out and argued against the wife because it just doesn't work for my training as well. We had a kiddo, the wife hasn't been going to her spin classes so we got on anyway. I make it work by mixing it in with my trainer rides. But they could gain a lot of people with easy improvements: incorporate with other cycling training platforms, improve the just ride functions (add graphs or more metrics, ability to watch Netflix, etc.), similarly improve the scenic rides, allow users to build in their own training rides to follow, etc. Hell, you could leave all the free functions of the bike as is and make these improvements for paying users to not take away from your subscription base.

This would be huge. I would likely pay for both services at that point. I'll bet some people who had road bikes and stands would sign up for peloton as well instead of buying the bike.

Peloton could increase their memberships that way as well.

They can even get creative and find a way to do increased output during commercials

Anybody doing the Reddit Powerzone weekly schedule?

Been a pretty good schedule to follow to build.

Since I got my bike during COVID, it's weird for me to actually see people in the studio on some of the older rides.

SIAP but looks like code was found in the android app for rowing instructions. So looks like a Peloton rower is on the way? I'd be all over it personally.

Yeah, I would be hard pressed to keep my wife from wanting to buy one of those if they came out with a Rower+ model. Might end up accelerating the conversion of our 2nd guest bedroom into a workout room.

My HIIT gym just picked up some new rower+skierg combo machines and those seem like a product Peloton can improve upon. They are pretty cool and take up less total floor space but frankly neither the rower or skierg function are as nice as Concepts individual machines.

Peloton didn't have a great quarter (for those who are interested) due to treadmill recalls. However, they still continue to dominate their market, especially doing well with subscriptions.

Peloton posted a net loss of $313.2 million in its fiscal fourth quarter, as treadmill recalls weighed on its balance sheet. The connected fitness company announced on Thursday that it is lowering the price of the Peloton Bike to $1,495 from $1,895. The bike was previously reduced from $2,245 in September 2020.

Peloton took in $937 million in revenue, a 54% increase from the same period last year, though a 25.8% drop from the previous quarter's $1.3 billion. Peloton's underlying numbers show a user base that has grown despite company controversy and a rising group of connected fitness competitors.

Peloton's connected fitness membership increased 114% year-over-year to 2.3 million subscribers. The $39-per-month plan allows users to stream workout classes and other content from their machines.
Digital memberships ($12.99 per month), which allow users to stream classes through phones, tablets, and computers, grew 176% to over 874,000. It will release a revamped treadmill on Aug. 30 for $2,495 much less than the $4,300 price of its original model.
