I'll preface this by saying I know their niche is classes, and they do a great job of that. But, unfortunately, the classes aren't really a great option for my training as I'm focusing on longer intervals, not as high intensity, and way longer rides, aka 25 mile plus.

The just ride and scenic rides really need some work, and it wouldn't be expensive. Have a longer scenic ride, or just loop some together. The just ride plain screen is a joke. Have a chart, show past intervals, etc. Heck, allow me to watch Netflix if all you're going to do is have a giant grey screen with the peloton logo

You are right about the scenic and "just ride" features. I would love to see them roll out a "build your own intervals" feature where you could program your own workout and playlist. For longer ride training, I would look at stacking multiple 60-90 min PZ Endurance classes. Those will adequately mirror a long tempo ride with rolling hills. Or if you want to go harder, stack up some of the climb rides or the CVV pro-cyclist rides. Christine has a stack of 5 60 min climb rides meant to replicate climbing Haleakala.

The scenic rides are much better than they were previously. Unless you enjoyed elevator music...

This would be marvelous. Since they have seen such growth in the sector, maybe that is something they will do. So far, they keep the ball rolling and continue product improvements. Hopefully that continues.

Maybe they purposely want the just ride and scenic rides to suck so nobody wants to cancel their membership and just do those.....

I was honestly pretty surprised you couldn't build an interval workout yourself. Seems like it'd be right up the ally for this bike and the technology.

Along those same lines I'd love to have a visual indicator on the screen that tells me what zone I should be in.

Most of the time I could do without music entirely. Definitely for an PZE ride. When I'm doing those it would be great to be able to turn off the coach as well and turn on the TV or a podcast. I don't need to hear the coach talk about nothing during those long stints in zone 3

how would this work? are they going to have a virtual instructor for these custom workouts or just ditch the instructor completely. Otherwise, you're looking at just stitching workouts together, which would be strange.

Seems like they could fire the coaches; get riders to coach classes and pay them based on hits like youtube

I think on the build your own workouts, you would have to either just select from random scenic ride footage or add your own video or something like that. Or maybe they could just let you watch one of the various streaming services in the background while you ride. Realistically though, the coaches and the classes are the heart and soul of the peloton experience for probably 90+% of the riders. They are not going to screw with that formula or start firing coaches. But the one niche they have struggled to really fully reach are the athletes training for a specific event, who would prefer to follow their own training plans or setup their own interval sets. I think adding this set of features would help them get some of those riders off the fence if they were hesitant.

Of course the holy grail would be a partnership with Zwift to let you take Peloton spin classes or go race people on Zwift using the same bike.

Without re-reading this massive thread, any suggestions on a 1st ride for a skinny fat (just fat?) 38 year old?

Found a good pz endurance ride today, matched my workout pretty well. It's a little annoying to have to watch the preview for Matt's description as the notes don't say squat about what intervals and how long he's going to do. But, they'll be a good thing to mix in and get some variety into my workout.

I'll probably still mainly follow my training plan. Seems silly to pay a coach to just ignore him. Just dumb that my cheap garmin bike computer has the ability to do things like auto laps and preset interval workouts and this bike doesn't.

Start with the basic intro program - it's 6 weeks; 4-5 rides per week.

I am 39 (almost 40) and I have a knack for thinking I am still 24 and able to Max out the Army PFT... so I inevitably hurt myself after 2-3 weeks of pushing too hard. I am determined to take it slow on the bike and make my gains according to their beginner program.

The rides are as hard or easy as you make them. If you got the bike+ ; then the resistance auto adjusts as you ride to whatever the coach says to put the range at. I.e if he or she says go to 25-35 resistance and you set the autoresist at 35; then when coach says now go up to 35-45 it will auto adjust to 45...

Anyhow; my goal in the beginner classes has been to be Top 3 on the leaderboard for the others "riding now" in the same class.

Last night I was #1 in my time range (beginner ride #3; output 151)

I'm having some frustration while riding "out of the saddle". Probably 50% of the time there is a loud clicking noise when each foot gets to the bottom of a cycle. It has a slight sensation like I might be slipping out of the clip. These are my own clip ins that I use on my road bike.

Does anyone else have this issue and did you fix it? Any thoughts?

Go to PZpack.com. They have a library showing the profiles of all of the power zone rides. I can't remember if you have to have a subscription to access it, but if you get into the power zone challenges, the subscription is cheap and is a small price for the work Angie does to set them up.

For you newbies (and anyone who gets frustrated with the seemingly lack of improvement), I thought I would do a little exercise to provide some insight and / or perspective.

Background: I got the bike in late November 2018, but did not do my first ride until early January 2019. I was out of shape and probably slightly overweight.

I thought it would be cool to see where I started and where I am currently, so here goes. I just focused on the 6 main ride types that I do routinely.

02/19 -> First 45 min PZE ride - Avg: 182 kj / Total: 491 kj
05/21 -> Latest 45 min PZE ride - Avg: 236 kj (+29.6%) / Total: 638 kj (+29.9%)
04/21 -> Max 45 min PZE Ride - Avg: 257 kj (+41.2%) / Total: 694 kj (+41.3%)

02/19 -> First 45 min PZ ride - Avg: 201 kj / Total: 543 kj
05/21 -> Latest 45 min PZ ride - Avg: 271 kj (+34.8%) / Total: 731 kj (+34.6%)
05/21 -> Max 45 min PZ Ride - Avg: 284 kj (+41.2%) / Total: 768 kj (+41.4%)

07/19 -> First 60 min PZE ride - Avg: 176 kj / Total: 635 kj
05/21 -> Latest 60 min PZE ride - Avg: 251 kj (+42.6%) / Total: 902 kj (+42.0%)
04/21 -> Max 60 min PZE Ride - Avg: 261 kj (+48.3%) / Total: 941 kj (+48.2%)

02/19 -> First 60 min PZ ride - Avg: 178 kj / Total: 640 kj
05/21 -> Latest 60 min PZ ride - Avg: 272 kj (+52.8%) / Total: 980 kj (+53.1%)
02/21 -> Max 60 min PZ Ride - Avg: 280 kj (+57%) / Total: 1008 kj (+57.5%)

05/19 -> First 75 min PZE ride - Avg: 201 kj / Total: 905 kj
05/21 -> Latest 75 min PZE ride - Avg: 241 kj (+19.9%) / Total: 1085 kj (+19.8%)
04/21 -> Max 75 min PZE Ride - Avg: 260 kj (+29.4%) / Total: 1172 kj (+29.5%)

03/19 -> First 90 min PZE ride - Avg: 192 kj / Total: 1038 kj
06/21 -> Latest 75 min PZE ride - Avg: 261 kj (+35.9%) / Total: 1408 (+35.6%)
06/21 -> Max 75 min PZE Ride - Avg: 261 kj (+35.9%) / Total: 1408 kj (+35.6%)

I put this together for my own edification, and thought I would share. On your hard days, or just days you don't have it, keep the long term goals in perspective. The training methods work.

Have a great weekend everyone.

No. The power zone pack challenges are 6-8 week power zone programs designed to lift your ftp. This summer challenge starts on July 19 and will be 6 weeks. They set a schedule of either 3 or 4 core rides each week and 1 optional "accelerator" ride. Ride 1 each week is usually the most intense for the week, ride 2 (and ride 3 for 4 ride teams) usually gets an option of two different rides. Ride 3 is the longest ride of the week, generally more endurance oriented. And the accelerator is always a choice between two 30 min pz endurance rides. They are all on demand rides that you can do any time on your own schedule, and there are a few limited chances to substitute a live ride for one of the weekly rides.

The rides generally get harder each week for the first 3 weeks, then the 4th week is a recovery week with easier rides. I will be interested to see how they set the pattern with a 6 week challenge instead of 8 weeks. The site to sign up at is http://www.pzpack.com

Alright, bike got here yesterday morning and I knocked out 1 ride last night on the beginner program, 1 older ride this morning, and a 20m live class this AM. This is addicting! Can't wait to finish the 6 week beginner program.

Definitely time to retest. Even the Z4s at the end felt like moderate Z3. Hit 995 on the output, considered hammering through the cool down but decided I'd rather earn it fair and square next time around.

Nice

I went ham today on my ride since it was the hardest ride remaining on the challenge (not doing the FTP). I have a little bit of a balky knee right now so after the challenge I'm going to step off the bike until the new challenge in July. Focus on strength, flexibility, and healing. A little bit of a reset if you will.
