Totally agree with this

Even his low impact rides have a coaching/teaching element to them

Less motivational talk and more actual coaching

Cannot stand MW's music but the best way I have of describing it is MW is an incredible coach, DM and the rest are great spin class instructors.

DM's music is always perfect for me though. I'm easily affected by music, so that's way more important to me than it is for most.

I'm 65. All of the music sucks! Yet, I endeavor to persevere!

Got back on the bike today for MW's st pattys day ride from yesterday after two and a half weeks of on and off sickness. Haven't been tested, but I haven't had any taste or smell since Saturday.... My performance went to total crap in 2 weeks. I was cramping and dying from a dang pze ride, and my heart rate was in the 160s late in the ride. I didn't realize just how fast performance could drop.

Same happened to me - I had to take like 6 weeks off and it has been BRUTAL. I'm gonna be on PZE rides for a while until I can build back up again.

I'm glad to hear that that's your strategy. I was also planning on 30 and 45 minute pze rides until I'm back again rather than retesting and dropping my zones.

Might make sense to at least reduce your zones a smidge...

I love how married Denis is to the beat. Actually, it was pushing myself to stay on beat in his classes that helped me get to the cadences MW says he recommends even when he's off the beat in his classes.

As for the music itself...man, I have SUCH an eclectic taste in music. If I have my personal music on shuffle during a workout, it might jump from gangster rap to FTAB to EDM to The Greatest Showman, and I'm loving every second lol. I'm almost always enjoying the music no matter the class, but if they play a personal fave of mine (like Skillet or when MW dropped Childish Gambino's "Bonfire" one time), it gets me EXTRA hype haha.

Anyone else do the 90 minute PZ ride this morning with Wilpers? Wasn't loving the alarm clock going off but feel good now.

Random question and don't mean to come off condescending or anything. But the wife and I are about to pull the trigger. We had our first kid in December and it's just been hard for her to get to the gym. Especially when you add in my crazy workout schedule. We've been doing some research and talking to friends, do the metrics really mean anything? I mean my friend was showing me their stats and he's doing rides at an average of 21 mph, 181 w average output. Then he joins me on his road bike and can't keep up with an easy 18 mph ride.

I know the results are there. And you're pushing yourself into different zones and it's completely different than road cycling. But those are some pretty extreme numbers

My experience is that the bike is accurate in as far as it holds the same calibration from ride to ride and month to month, but calibrations from bike to bike vary pretty widely. Our bike ends up reading slightly high relative to what I can do on my road bike outdoors, but not excessively so. I would say it reads about 20-25 watts or 1-1.5 mph faster than what I would do outdoors for the same effort. If you use it as a training tool and measure improvement against your own performance, it works just fine.

Yeah, this is why I'm still not opposed to getting it. I was just kind of shocked, I mean his was at least a 4 mph difference. And it makes me really doubt the leaderboards.

My current setup, an old tri bike on a trainer is the opposite. Its setup gives me about 2 mph less than my road bike for the same effort.

Biggest difference would probably be aerodynamics/wind resistance. You're just pushing and pulling on the pedals, you're not having to account for hills nor wind.

Agree with the poster above. It's like running on a treadmill vs outdoors. You're still training and improving but putting your foot in the dirt is entirely different feeling and just not the same.

FWIW, I just watched a dc rainmaker review and he said the older bike overstates the metrics for most people 10-20%. He said the new bike is much more accurate

Yeah, I have seen some pretty unbelievable numbers from some folks, but most are probably in that 10-15% range. I think they will send out a calibration kit to you if you ask. If you are looking at it as a training tool, get into the power zone program and you won't ever worry about what is happening on the leaderboard. About the only way I use the leader board if I am feeling the urge to compete is to pick somebody who started near me that seems to be pretty even with me, and then I try to edge them out by the end of the ride.

Couple of items for today

1) Who is doing Matt's PZE class in the morning?
2) Who is doing the competition with Alex that was emailed?
3) If so, what team TeamActivate (or) TeamValidate?

1.) I'll be on for the ride tomorrow morning.
2.) Unfortunately, can't do the competition with AT b/c we've got stuff going on during the rides. (My youngest turns 3 on Saturday!)

I think tomorrow I get my 60 days in a row badge. Needless to say, it cannot come soon enough. Talking about getting burnt out! I plan to take at least 5 days off after this.

Hi everyone. I've had the bike for 3 years now, and been inconsistent with making it a routine. I think (hope) I've finally imbedded it in my regular routine and manage 3-4 times a week doing 45 minute rides.

My primary goal is weight loss right now, and I was trying to find a program to follow, e.g. a 6-week program that lays out the specific classes to do so I don't search every day for what class I want to do. I saw the Power Zone program but a high level look at it appears it is more introductory than anything else but could be wrong.

Any ideas or suggestions on where to find programs to follow? Thanks.

Discover Your Power Zones is geared towards people who haven't used PZ training, not necessarily for people who are new to the bike. The output / effort is still scaled to you based on the FTP test. Once you get through that, you can join Power Zone Pack to jump in the challenges that Angie creates. There's nothing stopping you from doing that now, but there's not an official active challenge going at the moment.

PZP training is great for people like me who like structure but are too lazy to plan it out. And the challenge commitments sync well with your 3-4 ride schedule

I know this isn't really what you were asking but: I have found working out first thing in the morning drives consistency in getting your workouts done.

Best thing I've done for weight loss is count my calories. Peloton and rowing comes distant second.

Agreed with this. Nutrition will consistently help you lose weight and keep it off. It's tough but works the best IMO

Thirded. You can out-eat any workout plan (as I know all too well from personal experience). Workout regimen (consistency) is important, but body transformation doesn't happen unless you're dedicated with nutrition. For me, that's the tougher thing to master. I enjoy working out regularly, and being active in general, but I don't have the metabolism to just do that and not monitor nutrition.

Helps that my wife is super anal about it for herself, too.

Just did AT's 30 minute ride to greatness and PR'd. Got excited. Then look at the leaderboard and see Nitro straight slayed it and almost doubled my output. Way to go brother, keep beastin'!

To be fair I was at least top 30% w/ a 274 output
