#500 coming up on Wednesday

Wilpers Live @ 5:00 AM on 01.06.21 for those interested.

I'll be there doing #200

I'm in! See y'all in the morning! Think it'll be ride #190 or something like that for me lol.

That was fun, y'all!
What happened to Nitro? He fell off my screen about half way through.

Not sure! He high fived me at the start. I usually turn off my leaderboard during PZ rides so I missed when he disappeared, but his profile still says 499 rides (I was hoping MW would give him a shout out). Maybe he had internet issues. Gremlins have gotten me on a couple of live rides before.

I'll be there. I'm really looking forward to an endurance ride after two regular PZ rides the last two mornings.

Yep. Add #TexAgs and #TexasAggies and you'll usually see someone!

yes, leaderboard tags. it will show anyone else who has that tag that is doing the ride and you can filter via your tags. I'm megbmedina on the bike.

If you find yourself taking Power Zone rides, there is a group of us on here who ride together for the live rides sometimes. makes it fun to have a group to ride with.

So I took a few months from riding on the bike (was riding a lot outside and then we had a baby) and it's amazing how much those numbers go down! I'm dying on these PZ rides, but it's great to get back after it. It really is a fantastic piece of equipment and way more motivating than a "non connected bike"

If you've taken that much time off, may need to reset your FPT number.

FPT? I think that's the acronym.

I've got ride #250 on deck. I'm planning on doing the Dennis live PZ ride tomorrow at 7am. I normally ride earlier, but I'm adjusting my schedule to maybe get a shout out.

Should be there as well. My FTP recently went down but just means I need to get cracking on building it back up!

Today was my first ride with my new power zones after testing a few days ago, Olivia Amato's PZ ride from New Years Eve killed me. I hate the first few PZ rides after testing

Looking to get into the Stationary bike game potentially. I'm 6'2" 245 lbs, I like to run but am realizing that it will take a toll on my joints (knees especially) the older I get (I'm 24 now). I'm looking to lose some weight and want to try cycling mixed in with (less) running.

A couple of questions:
1. Do you find cycling to be as effective for weight loss/cardio as running outdoors?

2. If I get a stationary bike should I start with a peloton or go with something cheaper to start?

Thanks in advance!

To your first question, I've never been a particularly unhealthy eater so my diet didn't change, still probably drink too much but I'm in my 40s and when I got the Peloton back in August I was just over 200 which was the heaviest I've been since getting out of the Army in 2005. Since I getting the Peloton I've dropped a little over 20lbs with no other changes to my lifestyle. My knees are crap after the Army so running isn't a viable option and this is probably the longest I've stuck with a workout routine since getting out of the Army without some sort of injury. If you are getting a stationary bike no matter what, I wouldn't start with something cheaper, make the jump, you won't be disappointed

I appreciate your feedback! I am thinking about maybe buying a used peloton, do you happen to know if there's a big difference between the first generation ones vs the newest models? Thanks!

The newest one has a feature we love already(had it two weeks), which is auto follow resistance.

Basically it adjusts the resistance to fit the class for you. This is only available with on demand classes, not live.

Other features include a bigger screen, swivel screen, and different speakers. We're glad to have those features, but they aren't the be all end all.

I was an avid runner but got lazy for a couple years. Put on 25 lbs, lost the fitness, and now pushing 40. Now I don't have the fitness or joints to run 5+ days/week.

Started running again a few months ago but even 3 runs/week is killer. Even two weeks in I love having the bike. Always have liked interval runs/rides. This is the wife's primary cardio, but I'm really only trying to do 2 rides a week to go with 2 runs a week. But I do feel like it's a great supplement even if weather/fatigue dictate more bike and less run.

Between peloton, running, and weights I've worked out 13/14 days since getting the bike and some home gym equipment. And doing different activity every day has kept it from being a slog at all. It's great.

And yeah you may want to have TV on, but frankly the classes have kept me plenty engaged on their own.

Are these classes you're talking about something you do "live" like they're a scheduled time so other people are involved? Or is it like a subscription and you pick to do it whenever you want? Thanks for all the insight by the way.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
They have live classes, and on demand. The on demand library is huge and that's all that really interests me right now.

Looks like there's a big contingent here that does the live stuff.

On demand classes display you power stats two ways.

1. relative to everyone that has ever done the class.
2. Relative to the people that are currently streaming the class at the same time you are(or near enough to it).

The competitive side of me likes the live rides because I ride and push harder during them when I know I'm competing with others. That said, 80% of my rides are the recorded ones and I like them just fine but all of my personal bests occur during live rides

Thanks for all the high fives from those who joined! I agree, when I heard that it was just Z5 intervals with 5 min. of Z2 in between, I thought it was going to be a pretty easy ride. Turns out, 12 total min. in Z5 has a tendency to suck by the end.
