If money is no object and it's big enough the Lexus LX470. I believe they soon will release a new SUV based on the Sequoia frame.

A loaded Denali is probably a decent option too.

Really need to define what "best" means to you.

Some think the Escalade is the "best" because of its cachet and bling.

The Range Rover is often said to be the most comfortable with superb off road capability (but poor reliability).

The Lexus might be the "best" because of overall quality and reliability.

Some say the BMW X5 is "best" because of its performance and German engineering.

Some say the Porsche Cayenne is even more "best" than the X5.

No one says the Navigator is "best" at anything.

Denali = Tahoe with extra plastic and chrome glued to it

Having driven an Escalade all summer, with test drives at random points in a Range Rover, a Lexus LX470, Denali, and some random BMWs, my vote goes to the Escalade.

It was the most comfortable, had good acceleration for a vehicle its size, and with Nav and the climate package felt the most luxurious to me. The only thing I wish they would change is a little more leg room in the 2nd row.

And the typical Escalade goes for $60K+.

I don't know if the Audi Q7 is considered a full-size SUV or a hybrid, but it's damn nice indeed.

One of my former co-workers had a Mercedes ML55 AMG. He liked it pretty well, but he was about 5'6". I thought it was a little small. On the AMG model, the cost gets up there pretty quickly.

One of my co-workers used to drive a BMW X5, but now drives a Porsche Cayenne S. He likes it better than the X5, but it is a little underpowered.

I'd check into the Escalade.

isn't the Lexus GX based on the sequoia?

The GX is based on the 4Runner, I think..
Definetly not the Sequoia..for the $$ that's a great choice if you need a mid size SUV..

I almost recommended the Escalade but for the $$ it's not worth it, although I really like the Escalade verion of the Avalanche. I saw a college kid driving one here in CS, I grumbled a bit....spoiled azz kids.

depends on your definition of "full size." if you're looking at escalades, ford and GM are the only companies that build them that big.

Ford Excursion, too bad they quit makin' 'em.

The Lexus RX is based on the 4Runner (we have an RX). I think the GX is based on the Sequoia.

GX is definately not based on the Sequoia. My mom has it, and I like it.

If I was going to get any Luxury SUV, I would get the Cayenne S.

The RX is based on the Toyota Highlander, not the 4Runner. The RX is a car-based SUV (derived from the Camry platform). Note that both the RX and Highlander are offered in a hybrid version.

The GX is based on the 4Runner. Truck-based.

My Mother-in-law has a 2007 ML550, and it is a damn nice vehicle. It is light years ahead of the 2005 ML500 she traded in on it. It is not quite a big as the GL450, but it will still carry 5 people, with luggage in comfort. If I could afford one, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

The ford excursion with the diesel was the best. A real shame the quit making them.

I was just talking to a friend about this last night. I've got a 250 diesel and love it. The wife has an '05 GTO, but drives my truck more than her car. As soon as we pay off the GTO, she wants to find a gently used diesel Excursion to use as her beater/hauler.

they make an "exepedition xl" now (read: excursion replacement).

i am an auto wholesaler and personally like the infiniti qx56. while you can say it is a "fancy armada", that can be said for virtually every vehicle now since engineering platforms are more readilty shared.

Do they put the diesel in the expedition xl?

The Excursion was on the Super Duty platform and the nex XL thing is nowhere close. I am also pretty sure they do not offer it in diesel.I was pretty sad when GM did not put the Duromax in the Surburban and then Ford screwed me on the Excursion, so I went back to a truck.

Our diesel Excursion is wicked awesome!

SD....I don't understand how ford screwed you on the excursion. Was it that they quit making them? Was yours underdressed?

Just curious, I love ours.
Drip99

I think he is saying the screwed him by not making it anymore. I really don't understand why Ford and GM don't offer a diesel option in their larger vehicles.

Yes I was meaning because they quit making them.I log about 60k a year so every 3 to 4 years I like to make a change. Now that they quit making them I have gone back to a crew cab Duramax. Bandit my Excursion was not underdressed...4x4 Limited (maroon) with a Powerstroke. Loved everything about it except the seats and I find the GM seats much more to my liking..

Does GM still run the seatbelt out of the top of the seat? That bothered the crap out of me for some reason.

On my Chevy they're beside the seat.
