Three months ago I bought my wife a brand new 2026 platinum expedition. Four weeks ago it started honking randomly. Sometimes soft and other times loud. Sometimes for a second and others for minutes at a time. Driving. Or sitting in my driveway.

Take it to the dealership and a week later, they say it's fixed. I pick it up Friday the 18th right before service closed. I'm less than half a mile from the dealership when it starts again. I filmed it so I could show them. I drop it back off the 19th and go in today because they say it was fixed. I pull out of the dealership and haven't even driven past the edge of their property when it did it again. I turned around and grabbed the service manager and he rode with me and observed it happening multiple times. He got the shop manager and he saw it as well.

True or not, one of the service department folks told my wife that an electrical "glitch" in the steering column could result in the airbag deploying or other mechanical problems. So - in her mind it's not safe.

I don't think it's a lemon yet- but anyone ever experienced this? Recommendations on how to handle?

I think that's why my wife wants me to drive it. We have a TON more life insurance on me than her.

One more trip then lemon time. Have them put the 'the airbag could deploy' in writing and you're golden.

It blows my mind how we can't track down issues like this with 348,764 sensors and data loggers built directly into the vehicle.

A live log should pinpoint this issue quickly.

Ask them to put you in contact with the ford buyback program. Paid 100 percent of purchase price, including tax, warranty, etc.
Less a very small deduction for mileage when the issue was First Reported. Lemons exist so move on.

And get a 2027 replacement which will not have the aggravating start/ stop bs.

Airbag and full assembly (including clock spring) were replaced. Picked up the car Saturday.

Drove fine all weekend, but had two small honking issues today. Will be trying to catch it on video for further evidence, but I've already alerted the ford customer service team. We will see what happens next.

Ever been hit by an airbag?
1) she's prettier than you
2) might be smarter than you

My thoughts... one random honk could be a short. Honking says module or other issue going been to the ECU where the non-manually activated horn originates.

Any other issues proceeding the him? It's running and driving, but something is tripping the security

When I was a young punk I punched my gfs steering wheel while listening to music and her horn would start honking randomly in the middle of the night after that. God she hated me for that.

I've purchased one Ford in my life. It was one more trip to the dealer before Ford would voluntarily recognize it as a lemon. I'll revert to buy Toyotas going forward.

I was able to film two more honking issues yesterday. Have a call set for later today with Ford Customer service about the buyback program. We'll see what they say.

So when can he expect his refund? I shouldn't make jokes about this, but I don't think there is a person on the planet that can't relate.

Remember the old Discount Tire commercials?

I do remember those commercials. And I threatened to do that once at the Discount Tire on Texas Ave in College Station.

Have they told you it is normal wear and tear for that vehicle and is caused by the way you drive the vehicle yet? That is part of the Ford script for any warranty service requests, so if they haven't done that yet, it will take a few more visits to the service department before they will even consider a lemon law return.

As long as it isn't the new ones! Engines are imploding these days.

All brands have this type of thing these days unfortunately. With how complex vehicles have become and how many third party equipment providers exist, it's bound to happen.
