I had a 2003 Tahoe for about a decade. During that time, I replaced just about every component under the hood save the engine and transmission. Those would have needed replacement -- or at least rebuilding -- LONG before now had I kept it. I stopped driving it out of town because I had no confidence in its reliability, so for the last 2 years I owned it, if I went anywhere, I rented something.
These vehicles are HIGHLY overrated. Did I like the way it drove? Sure. Did I like the room? Absolutely? Was it a good, overall, highway AND city vehicle? Easily one of the best I've ever owned (except maybe for gas mileage). But I spent a fortune on that thing and while you could amortize that cost over a long period of time (20 years if you want), the cost of things like tires, batteries (earlier Tahoe/Sub models ate batteries for lunch; mine was 2.5 years almost to the second), constant work on the intake and related parts, fuel pumps (good for 5 years, max), etc. will make this "investment" one of the worst you've ever made. I've had at least 6 vehicles since I got rid of my Tahoe and even if you include my wife's 2 vehicles, we've spent less on those 8, maintenance wise, than we did on that Tahoe.
And no, that isn't hyperbole. Although, in fairness if you will (!!), if we replace the suspension in my wife's current vehicle -- which we will next spring or summer -- we will probably go over the cost at that point.
Seriously: you'd be better off on the street selling dollar bills for 75 cents. Save your money and find something else.
