I've had my eye out for a while for a good clean GX or Land Cruiser/Sequoia to make my little five minute commute in to the office and for weekend outdoor activities..does not have to be ultra low miles or immaculate just well cared for. My question is why are the GX's so much more reasonably priced than their Toyota cousins if they're basically the same underneath? Do the extra bells and whistles make them less reliable? TIA

GX is a Land Cruiser Prado, not a Land Cruiser. Also, some people pay more for the Toyota badging because it's more iconic.
As mentioned, a Lexus GX is not the same as a Toyota LC or Lexus LX570
The GX (2010-2023) seem to be a really good value for a super reliable nice SUV. There are tons of them out there for sale. I do like the look of the Toyota LCs and LX570s(2008-2021) better, but the price difference is considerable.
Even when you look at LCs vs LX570s of the same year, the Land Cruiser is always notably more expensive.
Now if you are talking newer, the GX550 and the new body style Land Cruiser are mostly the same vehicle with different trims and I think different powerplant. Lexus has an LX600 that is all on its own without a Toyota comparable.
I have been casually looking at GX460s to replace my wife's old Suburban.

Fine. I'll say it. If you want the LX version, get it, but get a pink pair of panties too. There's no shame in owning a pick panty Land Cruiser, but you have to be willing to admit it's not a LC!

Need to be more specific.
For some years, yes, the LX is very much a Land Cruiser with different badging.
Most recently I'll agree that it's different.
Any LX (450/470/570). All the fancy 7 speakers, body cladding, automatic climate control!

Seriously? What is sold here now as a Land Cruiser is not the "real" Land Cruiser the rest of the world gets. It's a four cylinder turbo hybrid Prado derivative. If you want the real Land Cruiser in the US, the LX is the only option.
Agreed. If you want the real LC 300 experience you need to buy LX700 overtrail and then purchase via Japan or UAE the front valance, grill, quarter panels, airbag module; badging; rear lift gate and about $10k in parts. Then have it assembled and repainted. Now you have a $135k LC300. There are examples on Mud

As an owner of a LX600 and the new Toyota LC, Toyota decided to call it a Land Cruiser, not a Prado, etc so it is a real LC. They've been very dependable, unlike the 300 series with the TT V6 (we got a new engine at 60k miles) and are holding value well. Time will tell on full reliability and resale but it's looking good so far.
