What disqualifies a vehicle from "lasting" for 15 years?
I assume recommended maintenance is allowed to be performed, right?
Does it lose if it blows an engine? Needs a bearing replaced? Needs a new spark plug? computer has issues?
If durability is your only concern, you're looking for a non-interference engine with a carb.
I'd got with an 80s Wagoneer to give yourself the best shot.

What is your use case? My parents are retired and just got a RAV4 Hybrid. You're going to get a lot of Toyota recommendations if "15 years" is the top priority.

No turbo or hybrid, just a plain 6 cylinder if talking 2026. There's not many. Honda Passport is one. Nissan Frontier if talking pickup.

New LandCruiser with turbo hybrid has not had any issues and some already over 100k on clock still just going and going.

I can't believe there are two Land Cruiser recommendations on here.

Did Toyota buy them and slap the LC badge on a Hilux?

Fun answer - I just got my 1999 Ford Expedition repainted after 27 years and a quarter million miles.
Hoping to get another 15 years out of it.

Serious answer is an SUV that is:

• Mass produced (at least 50,000 units/year - forget about the Lexus GX they don't make enough of them)
• Shares parts with other vehicles (i.e. Ford F150, Lincoln Navigator, etc)
• Low in complexity (avoid turbos, screens, hybrids, etc.)
• Doesn't have super rare high end options (like my V-12 7 Series BMW) unless you've got a huge maintenance budget
• Has long body style runs before a refresh (best example is the Jeep Cherokee XJ which kept the same body style from 1984-2001)

Best answer is probably going to be a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V6 or a Ford Explorer (over 200,000 units sold last year).

I assume you're prepared to do some maintenance and aren't going to freak out when you get the first $4,000 bill after it's out of warranty.

And if you're up for it, there's always a Jeep Wrangler JL (150,000+ units sold last year).

• You'll always be able to find parts for it.
• There will always be somebody willing to buy it off of you.
• You have to be somewhat of a connoisseur to be able to figure out which year model you're looking at for anything built during the last 20 years so it never really looks dated.

I dunno - I'd never buy anything Jeep (in the Dodge/Chrystler family).

Nothing with a turbo.

As a Toyota guy who has been a long-time 4Runner owner, I would say 4R or Land Cruiser. However, if you are an old fart, I'd still recommend Toyota but something a bit lower to ease getting in and out of. So thinking maybe a 2022 or prior Highlander.

15 years is a cake walk for most any modern vehicle, assuming you are driving 10,000 to 15,000 miles a year.

Also assumes:

Safe driver

Keep it clean

Moderate use (no extreme conditions or regular aggressive stops/starts)

Consistent, regular, quality, maintenance and parts

Garage

Highlander for the old people (easier to get into). Don't like the 4 cylinder turbo, but for basic old people usage, it should be good. Need to get my dad in one.

6 cylinder - Honda Passport. I like my older model 4 Runners, but If I was replacing them, I would consider a Honda Passport. New 4runner is probably better offroad, but I don't drive off road much. Use the SXS.

How cool would it be to pick up your kids in a 55 or 56 Nomad?
Or the 56 regular wagon with 3rd seat?

Probably true. I have a 2016 Porsche Cayenne S. I still really like it but just spent over $2000 on it. Mainly due to leaking valve covers. Just under 97k miles. Parts are never a problem.
