How to turn a dead battery into a four figure repair and almost a trip to the hospital. Could also play guess the damage.
Wife was going to head out in the 22 GX 460. Came back in "it sounds funny and won't start". Clicking from dead battery. Send them on their way in a car that was out front.
Unfortunately had parked the GX in such a way in our inconvenient driveway as to block everything in. Push it back a little - damn they are heavy. Manage to get wife's car (Q60) out to jump from. Of course the batteries are on different side and cables are too short. Maneuver her car the only way I can - to basically have it perpendicular to the GX as close as possible on the drivers side. Stopping just short of the drivers door so I can get out.
Leave it on and carefully open the door so as not to hit anything. Put my left leg out, pull right foot off brake and twist to get out and suddenly it's rolling forward - idiot operate didn't put it in park. Quickly it is squeezing my calf as it hit the GX and started pushing the door closed. Process what's going on and manage to twist back around and get on the brake and barely get the shifter to reverse as my leg is starting to really hurt - just barely got the brake depressed in time.
Reverse out of the idiotic situation I created. Leg is pretty damn sore but no permanent damage I think. GX has scraped paint on the front facade at a corner. Lil Red got it the worst. Scraped and creased the door.
Got the GX jumped and went and got the battery. Little over two hundred there.
Now get to explain the mess to the wife and take Lil Red in the get the door fixed. Figure that will be over a thousand. Doubt I want that on insurance.
Guess I should be happy I didn't lose a leg changing a stupid battery.
