Great job! That new cover looks identical to the old one. I wonder how old the old one was and what the odds are of finding a new one that matches exactly.

Thanks - the old one was definitely the factory original. There were still some tags on it with Japanese writing and 27 years of dog hair in nooks and crannies in the seat. The vendor advertises their seat covers as an exact match, but I was skeptical. The color is spot on, and the only very slight difference is that the new cover isn't as quite as shiny as the old upholstery - but it's not really noticeable. On the 4Runner forum somebody said the new leather will get more shine with use, and I think that's probably true.

You should put antique plates on it. Registration good for 5 years

Then you can't really drive it.

Certification State law makes falsifying information a third-degree felony. I certify I am the owner of the above-described vehicle, and as statutorily required, I also certify the frame, body, and motor are at least 25 years old; the vehicle is a collector's item that will be used solely for exhibition, club activities, parades, and other functions of public interest; it is not a replica or aftermarket vehicle; will not be used for daily transportation except when routine maintenance is needed; and will not carry advertising.

I would totally do this for my Landcruiser if I could just drive it to camp every now and then.

3rd Deg Felony? Not worth the risk.

Had a '99 4WD and manual transmission. My favorite ride overall had it on the trails in Colorado and Utah.

Enjoy!

Keep pouring love into this rig! Have you found partsouq.com yet? Make sure you buy in batches to cut down on shipping. When I redid my 97 FXJ80, I was getting weekly shipments from either UAE or Japan. Even with tariffs and shipping I was 10-25% less than dealership. Also, get to know the guys at the parts counter at your local dealership. They started giving me. discounts when I was coming in every Friday. The Lexus dealership next door sometimes could get parts faster than the Toyota guys so don't be afraid to call them. Learn to use the parts maps on partsouq and you will be able to get every part number you need

Thanks for tips, and yes I have found partsouq.com. Haven't ordered from them yet, but have used their parts diagrams to confirm part numbers. Most of the parts I've ordered from Serra Toyota in Alabama during their 25% off / free shipping specials. Their parts guy knows his stuff and has even corrected one of my mistakes on one of my earlier orders (for a thermostat gasket). I'm in north Austin and haven't found the local dealer to be particularly helpful, but did go to the Cedar Park dealership when I needed another coolant hose in the middle of the valve cover job.

"will not be used for daily transportation"

seems like this would be pretty easy to prove with all the flock cameras now

I had a 97 4Runner SR5 that I bought new and drove for 15 years. Needed work on the differential that was estimated more than I wanted to put into such an old vehicle with 200K miles. Sold it for not much, bought a late 90s Honda CR-V that was a POS. I regretted not repairing the 4Runner every time I got into that Honda. I finally dumped that Honda to some yard crew guy and bought a 2010 Toyota Sequoia SR5 with less than 60K on it that I am still driving today. But I still miss that 4Runner.

You got a great deal on a great vehicle.
