Damn. I didn't realize how expensive it had gotten. Might be time to go back to changing it myself. 6 or 7 years ago I decided it was no longer worth it to me to do it myself so I quit. I've gradually seen the price go up and up. Got a 5.0 that takes 7.7 liters, but still. That's steep.

Yeah, pretty easy to justify doing it yourself when 8qts full synthetic plus a filter runs about 50-60 at Walmart.

I just did the math and my 2015 5.0 is $51.49 per oil change. Basically 3 yourself vs 1 for the quick lube guys.

I find shade tree mechanic work therapeutic though, so there's a benefit there as well. Also gives me a chance to inspect other things while I'm waiting on the oil to drain.

Also, I know exactly what products are used so I don't get scammed and if I screw up, it's on me.

My problem is my driveway is inclined and I have a really small garage. Can't fit my truck in there. ANd disposing of the old oil just became a hassle. But jeez, I might have to go back now.

It costs me just over $200 for my F250 Diesel. It holds 15 quarts. I did it myself right after I bought it over 10 years ago. It is worth the $200 to have somebody else deal with 15 quarts of hot oil.

Look into getting an oil extractor. My pacifica says to remove oil that way (through the dip stick) and the filter is top located. So if I'm good, I can do it all with a single latex glove and not get dirty.

Just need an air compressor to run the extractor. Bought the one from Harbor Freight. Literally a steel drum with tubes. Works better if you have a bigger-than-pancake compressor. About 2.8 CFM @ 90psig or so rating.

Takes about 30 minutes or so. Since compressor is out, can check tires as well once done.

Pro tip: buy your own oil and filter on Amazon, take to service center if you don't have the means to change your own. Better quality and cheaper price.

I do usually provide my own filter. But I always have them use Mobil 1.

Lexus dealerships are very proud of their oil changes as well, $200 plus taxes for 6 quarts of 0W-20. I just change the oil in my driveway and it costs me under $50 for the oil and filter. My driveway slants at the perfect angle so when I pull the front end onto the Rhino ramps the vehicle is level. And I just back onto the ramps to change the diff fluid that's just as easy as the oil changes.

Could always find a parking lot somewhere, Roadkill (RIP) style. Or make/buy some ramps and be creative in your driveway.

I remember the first time I went in for an oil change in my 2002 BMW M3 and they told me it was going to be $450.

At the same time, I saw a flyer advertising a $225 oil change for any 3 Series BMW.

I asked why my 3 Series cost 2x the price for an oil change. Their answer - because it's an M.

I started doing it myself and just the parts were $73 in 2006. Including the $10/liter 0W60 oil.

I haven't paid over a hundred dollars for an oil change on my BMW 135is since I bought it 13 years ago. Generally in the $85-95 range either at an independent BMW shop or at the dealership. Most of these were in SF, mind you.

As an aside, there are always deals out there and I get coupons a few times a year from my local BMW and Lexus dealerships, usually in the $80-90 range.

This is very odd. My Lexus has never had an oil change at a dealership for over $80 in either SF or Boise. Where the hell are you people going...?

Just bought all the stuff to change mine for this reason. Bought the tools and everything and changed both our vehicles for barely more than one oil change would have cost for my truck

Cheap hack for you, since I know you are in CS. Buy your own oil and filter and bring it to the valvoline place on the corner of rock p and wellborn road. They charge like 29 bucks to change it. Costco runs the two 5 qt jugs on sale pretty regular for 13 bucks a jug. The supertech oil at walmart is in that ballpark as well and is good stuff. Both are full synthetic.

When we lived in College Station a few years ago I would take our vehicles to CS Ford fast lane for my F150 boost and my wife's expedition (at the time). It was called "the works" and included oil/filter change, tire rotation, top off fluids, and battery diagnostic. It was about $60 out the door.

We live in DFW now but I can still find coupons online and get our oil changed for under $100. Worth it for me to spend $30-40 in labor since I usually have other projects going on and family stuff.

Recently moved and found a great local guy. Third generation in the same garage and his sons will be the next owners. He's got at least 15 older cars and race cars in various states of repair scattered around the yard. He also converted three cars to be EMP proof. (Yes, major prepper.)

6.5 qts blend in my F250, checks everything, tops off anything else, $80. Only down side is that an appt usually takes 2 weeks to get on his schedule.

I buy my own oil and filter. My mechanic does the oil change for $20. They also rotate the tires and check all my fluids, brakes, etc.

2 cars use the same oil, so the one that needs 6 quarts just gets the left over bottle brought in.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

My wife takes the Expy to the ford dealer if they give us some good coupons. Otherwise it is all me. Cost of best discount deal for filter plus oil at chain store, plus 30 mins.
