Tell me about your Powerboost.

I'm going to look at one tomorrow and will probably try to buy it. It's a '23.

I've had (3) 3.5s with over 400K combined and haven't had a cam phaser failure yet(or even a CEL), but my current '19 has 109K and I am starting to wonder if my luck is due to run out.

Is it the one at a Hyundai dealership in Carrollton? If so, I test drove it on Saturday, but decided to pass after checking the Carfax. No smoking gun there, but enough to make me nervous about it.

I've had zero problems with mine.

I will say, it really didn't like when I lifted it and put 35s on it. It wasn't doing a lot of electric takeoff.

Otherwise, zero issues.

I did add a catch can and change the oil every 5000 miles.

Not that one.

If you're not going to put a transfer switch on your house for the generator, camp with it, or use it for ranch work power tools…there isn't much point to it. If you plan to use it for those things it's great.

The mpg doesn't get near the sticker for me. 20.1 vs sticker of 23mpg.

Otherwise it's been reliable. I would buy it again, because I use the on board generator. If I didn't, I'd just get a ecoboost.

What you get with the powerboost is a slightly higher MPG, a generator that you can take anywhere without loading it in the truck, and a truck that can accelerate pretty fast if you don't care about the MPG. You also get the ability to have the ac running when the engine is off.

I'm looking at a used one that has almost no premium over a regular ecoboost. So just making sure there aren't any inherent problems with it.

I have about 40k miles on a 2022 and no problems

Something that might become a problem is your lead foot on the accelerator...the PB can absolutely fly. Come to think of it, maybe that's why the poor MPG. Ha!

It also tow's extremely well. Tow several times a year about 600 miles, and hardly notice I even have a load back there.

I have about 70K miles on mine, FYI. So I don't have a 150K mile report I can give you. Obviously, a lot of things can go wrong between 70-150K miles. I fully expect a turbo or two to eventually go out, and hoping that's the only major issue I have with the truck.

If you want a Powerboost try to find a '21 or '22 with low miles, those are the best years. Join the Powerboost group on Facebook as well, tons of information.

While I agree I wouldn't buy it because of the mpg, I've gotten way closer to sticker. Type of mileage really matters. On my10ish mile, 25 minute commute in Houston each way I average between 23-26 mpg....

MPGs on a PB are very reliant on tires and weight. Not to mention different fuel blends, my mpgs dropped 1 when they roll out with winter blend gasoline. If you run the right tires and keep the added weight down in them, there's no reason you shouldn't get 23+ all day long.

Why '21 or '22 v a '23. Everything I've read says to stay away from most any car built in '22 due to Covid.

I've made a deal on a '23.

I like my '23 PB a lot.

I kind of alluded to it in the linked thread, but I've got a '21 EB and a '23 PB, and get much better mileage on the PB, and the driving profile/performance is just so much more fun. It's really the best of both worlds and a great use of hybrid technology.

The 21s & 22s seem to have the least issues. I have a 22 with 115k on the clock and no issues (knock on wood).

The admin on the FB Powerboost page has a ''21 lowered, tuned, etc etc. Over 600 hp and running 11's in the 1/4.

It's a strange configuration he has, 2wd and 6.5 bed or something. and he talks a lot of fluff. When people ask him for a dyno sheet or time slip, he bans them from the page and deletes the post.

Is your '21 EB a 3.5?

I've had (3) 3.5s and wonder how a mere 20hp more would make that much of a difference in performance.

Does the hybrid give you a little extra/quicker acceleration?

Yes - 3.5L. I don't think it's just the hp, but also the 70 lb*ft of torque. And the extra power is available instantly at all points on the power curve. You may not be just comparing 500hp to 520hp at the top end, you're also comparing 200hp to 220hp at take-off (and same for the torque). That's a 10% performance bump. The peak power of the EB takes time to rev up and turbos to spool. I don't think it's got a lot of latency, but it just doesn't quite match the instant power of the electric motor.

I don't have any complaints about the 3.5L, but I think the extra zip of the PB does give it a little extra juice. FWIW, I don't have the same gear ratio either (3.55? EB vs 3.73 PB). I would think the lower gear ratio should get better mileage with the same engine.

It could all be in my head - nothing beats comparing for yourself.

He's posted the dyno and track times. If you search his history within that page you'll see them. Unless he deleted all of it after being at Livernois.
