To preface, I haven't even googled yet which I'll be doing shortly but what do we need to do to register a vehicle bought in another state.

Take a 130U to tax office. Pay taxes and registration, get plates, wait 6 weeks get Texas title.

Don't forget it has to be inspected too. They jammed me up for that last time.

Not if they register it after Jan 1 and it's in a non emissions county.

If you can, have the dealer collect the taxes for Texas and send them in instead of you having to pay them out of pocket. The dealer I went to in Colorado would not let me pay the Texas taxes myself. They said they had to collect a sales tax and if it wasn't for Texas it would have to be Colorado tax.

This is good advice! I bought a Jeep in 2021 in Florida. They were only allowed by law to collect 6%. When I took all my forms and inspection on my brand new vehicle (stupid), I had to write the tax office a check for the other 0.25% sales tax so I could get my plates.
