Bilstein 5100 or Icon coilovers?

My '21 Titan is due for new shocks on all four corners and I've narrowed it down to two options. Bilstein 5100s or Icon coilovers in front and Icon shocks on the rear. For reference, the truck is an SV 4x4 and is primarily driven on pavement and occasional dirt roads.

I've looked for information on the Titan forums and Facebook groups and the consensus opinion is that the Icon setup is phenomenal, but pricey at 3-4 times the cost of the Bilstein setup. Reviews on the Bilsteins are mixed with some people saying they ride rough and others saying they're a nice improvement over stock. I suspect the people who think they ride rough have lots of preload on the coil springs for maximum lift. I already have a 2" spacer lift so no need to max out the preload, although I would love to get rid of the spacer lift and the Icons would let me do that and keep the ride height.

To further muddy the waters, there's a guy who owns an online suspension components company who is active on the forums and Facebook groups who is pushing the Icons really hard and constantly says how much better they are than the Bilsteins. He's extremely well regarded, very knowledgeable, and has great prices, but I can't help but wonder if the Icons are really that much better of if he's just pushing the more expensive product. I also suspect some of the people who dropped $$$$ on the Icons rave about the performance to justify the cost to themselves.

Anyone have experience with both? If the Icons are really that much better, I will gladly pay the premium for them, I'm just not convinced that the performance difference is worth the price difference.

I just installed the Eibach front and rears on my F-150 and have been impressed. Bilstein's weren't in stock and I had a tight window for installation. They were described as an in-between the Fox's and Bilstein's. Just another option to consider.

I really like the Pro-Truck Lift series, but unfortunately, Eibach doesn't have an option for the Titan.

Normally a Bilstein guy but since it's not my money I vote for the option that gets rid of the spacers.

I have the Bilsteins on my F150. They are great and a good bang for your buck. They are more of a firm/controlled dampening which the stock F150 lacks. If your usage is mostly road with occasional offroad I think it's a good choice. If you lean heavily toward lots of off road I wouldn't choose the Bilsteins.

Can you put 6112s on it?

Bilstein's are no doubt of superior quality. But I've never cared for the ride they provide. Does Fox make a setup for your truck?

From what I've seen, the advantage of the 6112s over the 5100s is off-road performance, but on-road the ride quality is about the same. I think they would be overkill for my application.

Fox does make a coilover for the Titan, but they cost about the same as the Icons and supposedly the ride quality isn't quite as good.

Of course this is just what I've gleaned from the research I've done online. I have no experience with either so if anyone knows better or has a different opinion, I'm listening.

I had a 22 or 23 Titan, and I think it came from the factory with Bilsteins. It was a pro 4X. But that might be more along the lines of the 4600's. I thought it rode rough.

I didn't realize you were looking for on road performance.

My new thoughts in order of cost.
1. Replace with factory shocks and make sure you're not running E range tires and air them down a bit.
2. Find someone to custom valve foxs or kings for comfort.
3. Sell your truck and get a minivan.

I don't see how buying aftermarket shocks (which are almost entirely geared towards off road) is going to do anything to substantially improve road comfort without spending big bucks.

I feel my 6112\5160 combo on my Tacoma was a massive improvement in on road ride quality over the OE 4600s. Much better ability to handle sudden bumps and holes of Colorado potholes and more composed under heavy braking. I'd describe them as well damped, composed, and comfortable without being soft.

I didn't go anywhere near max lift though, just 1.4".

I just ordered a set of 5100s for my Ram. I find the ram very soft in the rear, perhaps due to the coils vs leaf springs.

I'm not replacing with factory shocks because they wear out too fast. 50k miles is about all they're good for. I'm also not necessarily trying to maximize road comfort. I will gladly take a little stiffer suspension for improved handling and road control, which is what I think the 5100s provide. I'm confident the Icons are going to ride great and they're valved specifically for the Titan. I'm just trying to determine if they're worth the extra cost.
