here's the deal..
we were rear ended back on 9-29. Guy pulled over immediately and we got video of him, passenger, both vehicles, plates, etc. It was on i-10 in downtown houston so we all agreed to move off the road. He took off. In person and on video guy clearly appears to be drunk including putting a plastic cup on top of his truck when we stopped.
Cops showed up and looked at video. Gave us his insurance info which was Geico. Called them that night and filed claim. Their insured admitted fault the next day.
We take car to lexus that week and Geico has rental set up for us. That was October 3rd.

Lexus gets quote to Geico. 3 parts need replaced and total is $9k. Geico agrees to OEM for 2 parts but not the third (bumper). They want aftermarket. Per Lexus the cost difference is $60. That was October 11th.

Since then we have been trying to get a response from Geico but nothing. Left messages for our main claim contact, the particular person they said was handling the auto claim, as well as his supervisor. NOTHING.

Meanwhile they are paying for a rental car every day.

At this point, I'm thinking this is intentional but that seems stupid. Get the car done and quit paying the rental.

Is this SOP for Geico? I haven't had to deal with a claim in over 20 years so I don't know if this is the way it is now...just Geico or what.

Almost all of the insurance companies play games. They will step over a dollar to save a penny. We run into this all of the time. Sometimes they pay hundreds more in rent car costs to save a few dollars by trying to get us to order junk parts from out of state. It doesn't make sense, but that's their procedures.

Geico is absolutely by far the worst insurance company to work with. The do not care about you or your car. No decent body shop wants a Geico job in their shop. I follow a few body shop forums and Facebook groups, and it is the same nationwide with Geico. If someone comes in my shop and a Geico person hit them, we advise them to let their insurance handle it and then turn around and subrogate Geico. You might have to pay a deductible and then wait to get it back, but it's better than dealing with the crap that Geico gives you and the shop.

Keep riding in the rent car. They will eventually get around to it.

I just had this exact same experience. And what's fun, your rental car coverage will run out, and because they're delaying, you'll end up without a car while waiting for the eventual funds.

What I had to do, was call the main number, and start over. They'll ping your advisor, and get things rolling again.

I had to do that 3-4 times to move things along, during different stages of the process.

I'll say this, between work and home, i've had half a dozen claims the past couple of years (multiple totaled vehicles)...All State is the absolute hands-down, worst insurance company by far, that I have had to deal with. I will never ever have coverage with them.

My buddy is still battling AllState on a homeowners claim from 20 months ago.

Safeco was the best .

Safeco the best in claims - you and I must have had very different field adjusters. I would say the claims experience depends on your field adjuster. I've had good and bad experiences, the last one being with safeco and it wasn't good.

I'd agree with that.

Every interaction with AllState was a complete disjointed mess. They forever burned a bridge with me.

But I'd agree about the adjuster. Makes all the difference in the world, when it comes to the claim experience.

As the claimant the rental coverage never runs out.

If you are the insured then you only have 30 days of coverage.

It's run out for us multiple times, when the insured party didnt have high enough coverage limits.

After dealing with Snake Farms as a claimant for 6 months, I do not understand why the Texas Department of Insurance doesn't do much more to represent consumers. It's almost like they are representing the insurance companies instead of Texas residents. Snake Farms eventually paid a fair price for the totaled truck but they played their game for a Long time.

Just curious -- at what point in the process did they reveal that their insured's coverage limits had maxed out?

I ask because I'm trying to determine an insureds property damage limit and everything I've read said that in Texas you pretty much have to file suit to get them to tell you.

So, any tips? TIA

If it's $60 difference and you want to be a bit of an a**.

Pay the difference to the body shop and then file suit against the individual directly in small claims court for the difference.

I had a lady hit me with GIECO and the claim was one of the smoothest I have ever had.

I heard several horror stories before I made the claim but it was very positive experience for me.
