My wife is selling her 1992 Chevy 1500. It is a single cab short bed with the V6 and manual transmission. This truck was her first vehicle and has been garage kept since she bought it in 2002. It has been a weekend / Home Depot truck for the past 12 years or so and still lives in our garage. The truck isn't perfect by any means, but it's for sure in the top 20% of these trucks still on the road. The mileage is high but it's been maintained like a car enthusiast would maintain their car and starts and runs every time I need to go to Home Depot. It stays on a battery tender and is driven every month.

The AC system was replaced last summer with OEM ACDelco parts - but the blend door just started clicking when I fired it up to take pictures of it. It's an easy fix but the price reflects it. The AC blows cold

The tires have good tread but they are 10 years old. I don't see any dry rot and it's garage kept but maybe one thing the new owner may want to consider replacing.

The rear drum brakes were replaced 2 years ago - maybe 500 miles. At the same time the rear diff gasket was replaced and the fluid changed.

I replaced the grill and headlights a couple years back and they look great

The truck was just inspected and registered in Harris county

The gauge cluster isn't great. The fuel level gauge doesn't work and the Speedo works about 30% of the time. Lots of folks who rebuild them but we just never got around to it.

Anyway the truck runs and drives well, and the body and interior are clean and square. We have the clean title in hand

Mileage: 253k

I was asking 8k but I never ended up posting this anywhere else and other things too priority. Wife is looking to move it now. We'll really take any reasonable offer just want the space in the garage for another project.

In Spring Branch, Houston, Texas

I bet that thing will last longer than a '24 Tundra.

I suspect it will too! It's in great shape and runs like a champ. Lots of life left in it. Minimal electronics to go wrong and not much wiring. Good and mechanical like all things should be. It'll out last the Expedition I just bought I'm sure

Inb4 LS swap.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

I tried to talk my wife into an LS swap and tub it out. Then they closed Baytown and she lost the desire. Sad times.

Nice truck, I haven't seen one this good in a long time! I always thought power windows and locks came with the Silverado trim level, so can't say I didn't learn something today.

Did they have shift arrows in this instrument cluster, or was that only the previous one?
cryption

This truck doesn't have shift arrows - though I would have expected it with no tach.

Oddly enough it does have power locks but no button for them. When you start the truck all the doors lock and in 2007 my wife added an aftermarket alarm system.

So is it a C or a K? C1500 = 2wd, K1500 = 4wd. Looks like 2wd to me.

That's weird, someone must have added that before she bought it. The '92 and '94 Suburbans I dealt with didn't do that and neither did the ~'90ish with the older gauge cluster.

Wouldn't surprise me if the factory harness is in there if someone wanted to add OEM locks and windows though. Either way it looks nice! Way easier to drive and keep up than my '70 Ford.

I learned something new! Thanks for that. It's a C1500 - 2wd

No offense but why do you have the price listed at about 3-4 times the KBB value? Is there something special I am missing here?
cryption
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Kbb value means nothing with classic vehicles. I have it priced lower then comparable condition trucks on all the GMT400 Facebook groups

It's the fact that it's a single cab short bed truck. If it were a base single cab long bed v6, OP would be asking $2-3k.

Whoever buys it just wants a clean/straight body so they can swap an engine of their choosing.

At the risk of being a complete jerk I have to say what everyone else is thinking when they read this:

Usually, the term classic is reserved for a desirable and somewhat rare vehicle. If this happened to be 100% original, and had like 30k miles on it, someone who lost their virginity in a clone of this exact truck might have enough nostalgia for it to give $5-6k. To 99.9% of the human population this is just a clean 32 year old 2wd home Depot runner that is probably worth $2k since the AC works. Your emotional ties are clouding your judgment. If it means that much to you and your wife you should keep it. It is worth more to you than anyone else on earth. I suspect even at $8k you are pricing it close to, if not over, the original MSRP in 1992. This truck is never going to appreciate in value, ever. The '90 - '93 SS454 appreciated, maybe a clean Z71 has appreciated, since they were the first generation to add a decal for that RPO code, but this truck is not an appreciating asset, sorry.

OBS trucks are hot right now. $2K for this one is laughable and insulting.

The engine has already lasted 50X the life of 22-24 Tundras with their "machining debris" issues

Ok I will chime in

I have owned 3 5.7 versions of this truck since 1996.

In 2020 this was a $2000 truck and then inflation and covid entered the picture.

Realistically it is probably 4-5k now.

I agree on the emotional attachment clouding the value.

I had a 1990 5.7 sle version same color and new it sold for ~14k drive out. Same 5.7 vortec truck in 1996 was ~18k.

It's not 2019 anymore for sure. A V8 single cab short bed under 150k miles as clean as this one can go for 15k right now. The market has changed, OBS truck values are going up by the day. Most of them still on the road have been wrecked, swapped, modded and all sorts of stuff. Clean stock ones are pretty rare now days. Folks are just unaware of how the market on OBS trucks has changed, but that's not a huge deal. I posted here to see if anyone wanted it before I throw it in the FB GMT400 for sale groups where I'll get 8500 for it in a day. Two owner trucks like this one with 20 years of maintenance and loads of new parts is pretty unheard of in 2024. If it were a V8 I'd expect 15k. The market on these trucks is wild now.

My bad, you're right I had no idea there was a market for these trucks, I apologize.

I had a '90 Silverado single cab stepside in garnet red, not exactly red and not exactly maroon. Bought it 50/50 with my dad for 11k OTD with my lawn mowing and part time job money. It had the 350 and the 5sp. Great truck, a lot of good memories dating my now wife, A&M, camping trips after semester breaks with my college buddies, etc.

If someone had my old truck for sale, I mean the exact VIN of my first real truck, even with all my nostalgia for it, I wouldn't be even slightly tempted at anything over 5k. They were good simple trucks, the TBI was dead simple, and working on them was easier than the previous carburated engines. But they were a dime a dozen.

And I would not consider my old V8 truck a classic. Calling your truck a classic is like call a 1970 4-door Malibu with the straight six a classic because the front clip looks the same as '70 LS6 Chevelle SS.

If I could find my first car, I would pay whatever they were asking.

If I could find my first 3 cars, I wouldn't pay anything for them... but they were pieces of crap. '77 Cougar with a fire ant bed in the trunk (bought for $100), 81 Datsun 200 SX (got for free) with a hole in the floor (tire fell off when my brother was driving), '89 Toyota Truck which had more dents and rust than it didn't.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

I was unaware until this thread that a OBS was considered a "classic". I'm aware of the definition of classic but just blows my mind people think a 90s truck is a classic… old man now I guess.

Also, I have a friend selling one with half the miles, 4WD, and in pretty dang good shape for about $5k. I still thought that was high and then read this post and was curious why the pricing was so high. I have now been educated of the niche market for these things.

Details of said 4wd truck? Year, color, regular cab or extended cab, engine/trans?

Regular cab, short bed, V6, 1994 or 1995, 150k miles (I think). Painted a weird color (marine green/blue). Has been a deer lease truck for last 15 years but it's not in deer lease condition. Other than the dash being cracked, it's immaculate. Owner is as anal as they come…
