Looking at one of these as an additional vehicle that my wife will drive until eventually it will be handed down to my youngest in a couple of years. Never owned a VW, but the age, mileage, and price fit all around.

CPO new arrival with 50k+ miles. Carfax shows it's a two-owner vehicle (second owner is a dealer employee). First owner traded it into a Porsche dealer. No accidents or major issues noted, regular maintenance on schedule. My only concern just knowing the little I know about cars is the turbo and long-term reliability.

My wife and older daughter went and drove it Saturday and liked it a lot. I'm going to go look at it tomorrow, so give me a few things to look at or ask about specific to this car/engine other than the obvious. Thanks in advance.

What is the R-line package Jetta?

In short, R-Line trim brings a subtle bodykit that makes a VW look more aggressive and implies it has the performance credentials of properly fast VWs think bigger air intakes, larger diameter alloy wheels, subtle boot spoilers and side sill(the bodywork running under the doors) extensions.

I'd be waiting for that turbo to fail.

1.4 liter turbo? I'm running, not walking, away.

However, good luck.

^^ What a weird review based on no actual information or research.

The previous EA111 won international engine of the year. The EA211 is a brand new design to further evolve the 1.4 TSI engine.

EA211 has a timing belt since they had issues with chain tensioners on the EA111. They are being labeled as a "lifetime belt", but I would be tempted to replace at like 120k miles.

Some things to consider in maintenance:

Spark plug replacement every ~30-40k miles
Timing belt service - do your research
Carbon build up due to direct injection - something to keep an eye on as soon as 60k miles, do your research

I'd recommend getting on the VAG forums for EA211 owners.

I've owned 3 VW's for the past 20 years...all with turbocharged engines. It may be my dumb luck, but I've never had issues with the turbocharger. My current VW is a 6 speed turbo charged diesel. Its been a great car.

These EA engines have integrated turbo manifolds, which allows them to water cool the manifold to lower the exhaust gas temperatures going through the turbo.

K03s have a bad reputation for failure, especially if you tune them and regularly push them past the factory boost. I have a tuned Mk5 Jetta GLI that makes 15-20psi boost with 142k miles (over half of that tuned), and I'm still on the stock K03 (and stock clutch, somehow). Admittedly, it blows by some oil, but nothing too crazy.
