For example, Ford right now technically has access to Tesla Superchargers but it isn't to all superchargers. They do not have access to any V2 or Urban chargers, and do not have access to all V3 chargers. This results on Ford only having access to about 60% of Tesla entire network. They are also charged a higher price rate compared to Tesla vehicles. Additionally specific to Hyundai and Kia, you'll get much slower charging speeds compared to Tesla because Hyundai did not optimally design their 800V architectural to be charged through Teslas 400V superchargers. Porsche however can fully utilize Teslas supercharger speeds even on 800V since they did design for that.

Yeah, I have the roof top tent (vinyl covered cheap one, not fancy clamshell one) and 270 degree batwing awning. I'm averaging about 10.8mpg in this bad boy.

I think you are describing an edge case that would not impact the average EV buyer's decision. The numbers I found from 2020 show that 1/3 of all households have only one car, while almost 60% have two or more. The average TX household has 2.3.

Edit - I found a AAA study from 2020 that says 80% of EV owners also have a gas car.

If you are in the minority that has only one car, and the way smaller minority where that one car is an EV, then you could rent a gas car for your annual long road trip, which makes the superior Tesla charging network moot in your car buying decision.

There are plenty of good reasons to choose a Tesla or to choose a non-Tesla. I think that for the majority of potential buyers, the quality of the charging network is one of the smaller factors.

Deciding now between the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the LRMY. Luckily not having to make a decision right this second - so waiting to see what Tesla prices do or if we get any hint at a new model. Like the Hyundai but to get the features to rival the Tesla it's a good chunk more money.

True - i was just curious if we'd see a larger drop later on (similar to beginning of the year) due to them having such a bad quarter. I think i'm definitely leaning Tesla's way - never fully trusted Kia/Hyundai but that Ioniq 5 was really nice.

The Ioniq 5 looks cool but the Ioniq 6 looks like @$$...and I have a Model Y so obviously I'm into ugly cars. Why did they make the front & back the same exact angle?


I know nothing about cars, but I think its prettier that the 5. I am getting one today today as a 3rd car for wife or daughter when doing local driving. I have had such a good experience with my G70 and older daughters Kona, I am hooked on Korean cars. Not sold on EVs, so I am doing a 2 yr lease because of all the crazy incentives they have on them. Keeping the old odyssey around for family driving on long trips. Will do most charging at home, but supposedly you can use the CS Tesla chargers on it with an adapter.

The back just looks funky to me like they're copying a 911.

It's a still a little gray right now, not sure I want to use a non approved adapter. But it comes with free charging at the nearest level 3 charger to us.

Here's my wife's new Model 3 she took delivery of last week. I'll admit it's pretty damn fun to drive. She hates stopping for gas so that was her primary EV motivation along with advanced navigation, autopilot, and pet mode although she was already *****ing today when she realized a trip to her parents this weekend was going to require a stop in Luling at a Supercharger

For those of you with EVs, how does your insurance compare to your ICE vehicles?

I had Liere Insurance runs some comps for me and any EV that wasn't a Tesla was considerably lower in premiums.

Just added the ioniq to insurance and it's the cheapest of the 4 cars when it comes to comprehensive coverage by about $100 /six months

I've also been eyeing the VW ID.4 as well. The insurance premiums are low as well compared to the Tesla's. Do you know about Tesla insurance? My teacher friend says that she pays for Tesla insurance straight through Tesla. She says it pretty cheap but then again, she doesn't have two teenage drivers.

My non-Tesla EV is about $200 a year less than my gas Subaru. Seems about right since the Subie is worth a few thousand more and I put more miles per year on it since it is my road trip car.

No idea about Tesla. My next newest car is a 2021 , so the ioniq is probably worth the most at this point, but cheapest comprehensive. I have a 18 and 21 year old so I'll hardly notice adding another car to my insurance.

I like the ID.4s look. Make sure you read up on navigation and charging as I heard a while back it would route you to only noncompliant chargers.

Tesla insurance varies based on your driving habits and I get 5 FCWs (front collision warnings) a day so mine would be high.

The IONIQ6 is apparently loaded to the gills with chips made by my company, so please buy lots of those.
