Need something larger than the wife's pilot for hauling family across the country. Want 4 wheel drive. Like to keep under 60k. Considering like a '20 sequoia, 20-21 expedition, or possibly a new nissan armada. Prefer to keep my vehicles 10 plus years. Any advice? Thanks.

I did look at land cruiser but it was no bigger than the Honda pilot. That's how I ended up at sequoia.

Bought a 4Runner Limited a few years ago and it worked out great.

Nissan armada or the infinity twin will be most bang for the buck. The v8 Nissan engine is bullet proof but thirsty.

I looked at 200 series Land Cruisers and LX570's but ended up with a 2020 Sequoia. A lot more interior space for $20k less for an equivalent LC or LX.

We've had an Expedition, 2 Sequoia's and now a Land Cruiser over the past 20 years. The Sequoia was hands down the best family road trip SUV.

We have two of the previous generation Sequoias ('15 and '19) and both are still going strong. If you keep up with basic maintenance they go forever. The older one has over 140k miles and the newer one has over 50k miles.

Sequoia 3rd row has more head and leg room than Armada and the 4wd setup is better. Do it.

Got a new expedition earlier this year to replace wife's highlander that we grew out of when we had twins last year.

Side note, still can't believe how well the highlander held its value.

Looked at the sequoia and really liked it but the lack of an extended length version was a deal breaker for me. Also I can fit very comfortably in the 3rd row in the expedition, not so much in the sequoia.

Are Tahoe/Yukon's just not well thought of in the current generation now? What about the Wagoneer etc, too expensive?

Expedition or Armada is best bang for the buck. Expedition will have more storage.

GMC / Chevy you could get the 3.0 Diesel baby duramax that has a lot of positive feedback.

Sequoia meh. It's kinda a huge letdown. Unlike the Tundra.

My only caution is to be cautious buying uses 2020 and 2021 vehicles. That's right during the smack of Covid when brand new vehicles were having all kinds of quality problems.

Everyone I know with a wagoneer has had problems with it. Several of them have had extreme problems.

Why is everyone saying the Sequioa is larger on the inside than the Pilot?

According to published figures, the 3rd row is no larger than the Pilot the OP is trying to replace. In fact, the 3rd row headroom is almost 4" lower (39.3 vs 35.6)

https://www.truecar.com/compare/honda-pilot_ex-l-7-passenger-vs-toyota-sequoia_sr5/

The Sequoia does have more cargo space with the 3rd up, but almost the same with the 3rd row down.

Also, a comparable trim is $20,000 more money.

Finally, how has no one suggested minivan yet? Such disappointment from the auto board!

This board loves Toyotas and Fords and typically bashes GM. Sales of GM SUV's say otherwise. I don't have info on the Wagoneer.

We bought a first gen (December 2021) and haven't really had any issues with it that weren't first gen-like recalls.

One good thing about the Wagoneer client service is that (as long as you have a certified wagoneer dealer), they will pick up and drop off your ride for oil changes and recall work. They also top it off with gas.

They will also provide a loaner (another wagoneer).

We had some broken clips in the headliner causing a rattle. They replaced it all and we had a brand new 2022 loaner for about 10 days.

Anyways - I believe any of the fullsize SUVs are going to be out of that price range (<$60k) unless getting used.

An Expy can be had for that at lower trims or a few years old.

A few recent responses appear to be referring to the NEW Sequoias, which are not as roomy as the previous generation. I believe the OP was talking about a used Sequoia from the previous generation.

My main issue with suburbans when I was comparing with Expeditions was the dated interiors.

GF has a 23 Tahoe. I'm not a fan of the ergonomics or the interior fit and finish

2 adults plus 2 kids. I don't really care about 3rd row. Just need the cargo space

What year pilot ?

Check out the 2024 grand highlander.
With the third row down it has about 20% more cargo space than the 2024 pilot and also has more cargo space than the new armada and sequoia

Actually the new ones are larger wheelbase than the old ones but the interior room is not much different.

But that 3rd row on the earlier models is still smaller than the Pilot for headroom. Legroom is longer by 3".

The middle row in both the earlier and new Sequoias is a lot smaller than the pilot. The headroom is almost 6" shorter on the older model and 2" shorter on the 2024's.

Unless you're going to get a Tahoe, Expedition or Grand Highlander, nothing anyone has suggested is going to give you that much more room than the Pilot, except a mini-van. Esp. with only 2 kids. They'll fit in the second row for a long time.

The Grand Highlander is larger than the older Pilot as far as cargo space behind the 3rd row, and folded 3rd row. A little larger than the 2023 Pilot.

I mean if you wife wants a new SUV, then no one's going to stop you, but you're not going to find more room in anything that isn't a Tahoe/Suburban/Expedition sized vehicle except the Grand Highlander. I'd put the Toyota or new Pilot (slightly larger) a the top of the list and see if that's really better.

Personally I hate the ride quality in the GM/Ford large SUV's. Make sure you can live with it, parking it, insurance, gas, ride quality, etc. before you go that route. Also, they're ridiculously expensive right now. GM/Ford can't make them fast enough.

This has been discussed quite a bit in some other threads, but the new sequoia has considerably less cargo space than the prior years' version.

2020 Sequoia Cargo Volume to Seat 1 - 120 cubic ft
2023 Sequoia Cargo Volume to Seat 1 - 87 cubic ft

2020 Sequoia Cargo Volume to Seat 2 - 67 cubic ft
2023 Sequoia Cargo Volume to Seat 2 - 49 cubic ft

The 2023 Sequoia is more comparable to the 4 runner which as 90 (to seat 1) and 47 (to seat 2) cubic feet.

My friends with Wagoneers (2 families) have not had significant problems. They were each 2022 buyers and have less than 20k miles each. One has the Series II and one has the Series 1, so they lose a lot of the tech.

They all had the issue with the upper console not staying, but that was fixed.

QX80/Armada is the same from when I've had rental Tahoes. Wife's QX56 has been problem free to 155k except for a bad cat CEL on intermittently for 5 years but I get it inspected when it's off. I hear there's a TSB to fix it but I haven't found it.

This video is a discussion of SUVs that can last a long time. #2 on the list (starting around the 10:14 mark) is the Sequoia and specifically the second generation Sequoia. The only (slightly) higher rated one is the Land Cruiser.
