I love my two Sequoias.

I absolutely do not believe that the Pilot is bigger. I used to have a pilot and the Sequoia is huge by comparison.

The outside may be larger, and it does have a larger wheel base, but the according to numbers published by the manufacturer, it's not that much bigger. In some areas, it's actually smaller (3rd row headroom).

EDIT: I'm talking the newer G3 2023 Pilot. The G1 is smaller than the G2 is smaller than the G3. I've sat in the G2 and G3 and was surprised how large the back row is.

see my link above, you can compare whatever you want.

The Sequoias is larger (new and older versions) but it's not the huge increase in interior space everyone is claiming, especially for the $20,000 price increase.

Used Sequoia doesn't involve a 20k price increase.

Agree, but a used Sequoia is going to cost more than a used Pilot or just about any other similar SUV. And as I pointed out, it's not that much bigger than the Pilot as everyone claims.

2024 Pilot v 2024 Sequoia v 2016 Sequoia Internal Room

And cargo and towing capacities

That Gen 2 Sequoia is much bigger behind the 2nd row than the new Pilot. Hip and shoulder space is +6", leg space is +3". Cargo space is 37% more.

The EX-L, Touring (which is what we have), and elite have a deeper compartment(removable seat storage) for behind third row storage which gets you a lot more than the 18.8cuft. they have shown.

During our vehicle tests we took a large, medium and small suitcase with us to see what fit and between the pilot and old gen seq. only the pilot could accommodate. But the old gen seq. "felt" a lot roomier on the front and second row. The 3rd row seq. can fit 3 people ok but the 2023 pilot can only squeeze 3 oompa loompas (2 people comfortably though).

Couldn't afford to look at the new sequoia but I hear it's pretty.

Got a new expedition earlier this year to replace wife's highlander that we grew out of when we had twins last year.

Side note, still can't believe how well the highlander held its value.

Looked at the sequoia and really liked it but the lack of an extended length version was a deal breaker for me. Also I can fit very comfortably in the 3rd row in the expedition, not so much in the sequoia.
when would a grown adult ever need to sit in the 3rd row?

if you have twins... they're likely in the car seats in the 2nd row... so anyone not sitting shotgun or driving is going in the back... grandparents? brother/sister/wife?

Lots of reasons. People also take long road trips (I notice you're going to CO quite often). We had 2 fullgrown adults in the back of our wagoneer on a trip from DFW to Breckenridge. They were quite comfortable.

Correct, I have twins in car seats second row and 7 year old goes in the back. When grandparents come to town wife and I sit in the back with 7 year old so we can all be in same vehicle and don't have to rent a car. Plenty of reasons/situations why full size adults sit in the back.

Huh? That data shows;
PILOT REAR LEG/HIP/SHOULDER = 40/57/61
'16 SEQ REAR LEG/HIP/SHOULDER = 39/60/61
'24 SEQ REAR LEG/HIP/SHOULDER = 40/59/65

Or did you mean the 3rd row, which is 4"+ shorter head room in both model Seq. than the Pilot? Who cares about hip room if my 12yr old is over 5' tall?

Again, I agree the Seq. is larger, but it's not the huge passenger space increase that seems to be perceived. If you've got more than 4 people, you're not going to be able to fit much more stuff in the back with the 3rd row up.

The Sequoia would be the best all-around for 10-year ownership. Checks all the boxes. If you can give up the 4x4 requirement, the minivans are just great for people in an out. Amazing how their image problem blinds everyone to serious consideration. A Sienna or Odyssey are great.

Check out the 2024 grand highlander.
With the third row down it has about 20% more cargo space than the 2024 pilot and also has more cargo space than the new armada and sequoia
I was reading this morning about owners having some trouble with those hybrid engines. I would give it 3 or 4 years before buying one to let them work out the issues

"Behind the 2nd row" means not the 2nd row. It means 3rd row seating or cargo space with 3rd row folded.

I'm 5'11" and have enough head room in the gen 2 Sequoia 3rd row. Two of me fit comfortably back there. If you're 6'4"+ it might not work.

I do have twins myself....I guess my point was as a grown man I'd never once sit in the 3rd row of any vehicle for an extended amount of time. All 3rd row's suck.

I'm 5'11 and have no issues at all riding in the back of our Wagoneer. It even reclines.

The second generation Sequoia was actually pretty comfortable. My son, who is 5'9," sits back there all the time without complaint.
