Aftermarket Sunroof/Moonroof Installer Recommendations?

This isn't meant to be a thread about the pros and cons of aftermarket sunroofs/moonroofs. I know they're widely discouraged by most folks on internet forums. I'd still like to visit one-on-one with a reputable installer to get their opinion.

I'm considering an aftermarket in-built sunroof/moonroof in a new GMC Sierra HD crew cab. GM doesn't offer a sunroof with the package that also includes the front center jump seat. In hindsight, I prolly should have upgraded to the center console to get the factory sunroof and then bought a jump seat after the fact, but it's too late for that.

Anybody have a recommendation for, or personal experience with, a reputable aftermarket installer anywhere in Texas?

Thanks in advance!

You'll likely need to look around the Houston east side and bring a translator.

A sunroof isn't a good idea, cutting up a new truck is even worse

FWIW 8 yrs in the car business and I've know 3 people who did aftermarket sunroof. All 3 have had leaks and regret doing it. Plus it's very $$$$$$$$$$$

This isn't like the lecture where you tell your friends you want to buy a boat and they remind you of all the reasons and expenses to not buy a boat... just go buy a boat, but please don't cut a hole for an aftermarket sunroof.

Hard pass on that idea.

Speaking of sunroof leaks, can you buy replacement rubber seals for the 2015-2020 F150 double pane sunroof? I can't seem to find a part number.

And.... don't do it!

You need to perform regular maintenance on a sunroof. One is a conditioner for the gaskets. The other is a grease for the tracks. Ford has a TSB for it.

When I bought my truck, I asked the dealer what they had without a sunroof and bought that

I hate sunroofs. Adding one after market sounds even worse.

OP's level of confidence hasn't been seen since General Custer fought a little skirmish at Little Bighorn.

Just so I'm on the same page, do I understand correctly that the OP has new vehicle with completely sealed and complete cab roof, he is actively looking for someone to pay to come cut a hole I said cab roof?

You can't be serious.

For what it's worth, I downgraded my Super Duty trim so that I could AVOID the gd sunroof when I bought it. It's a fact of like that you'll have 100% fewer problems by not having a hole in your roof.

I'm being a smartass on purpose but there is a reason you can't find a company to do this.

1ags said no. If it was a good idea, he'd have a dude to do it.

When I had my '22 Lariat built I threw every option available in it, but I did NOT add a sunroof. Every car I've owned with a sunroof, I never used it, and in my '11 F150 when the sunroof broke, the dealer wanted close to $2k to fix it. No thanks. Good luck OP with whatever you decide.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but it's generally not advised to install an after market sunroof in a new vehicle.

Y'all sure don't hold back, do ya?

My mom always had a sunroof in her car growing up. I have a lot of fond memories as a child driving with the top open. I don't remember us having many, if any, problems with them.

Mom's been gone for over a decade and I just lost my dad earlier this year. Was just trying to tap back in to some of that nostalgia. Emotionally driven, I know. My brain says one thing while my heart says another. I don't expect anyone else but me to understand...

I couldn't understand for the life of me why someone would do this, but now it makes sense. Sorry for your loss.

I'd buy a diff truck.

Pull the fuse that controls the opener.

Keep the shade screen open so it feels open.

So many of these factory sunroofs suck. I can only imagine the after market cut and fit is even worse.

Sorry for your loss.

Please know we are only trying to help. An aftermarket sunroof is the worst decision you can make and will cause you more problems then not. Not to mention after all the problems, you try to sell it and the customer finds out the sunroof is aftermarket.....

If you feel you need a sunroof trade your truck in and buy one with a sunroof. It will be less expensive and less trouble in the long run.

Same when I built my '22....

To show how much I used it, when I traded it my F150 the dealer asked if I knew it was broken lol (wasn't leaking, but the motor was out)

"Reputable" and "aftermarket sunroof installer" are mutually exclusive. Hell, the only thing that I was asked when I traded in my last factory equipped sunroof F-250 was "does the sunroof work?"

This is a terrible idea, OP. Find another truck with a factory sunroof.

if you love sunroofs for nostalgic reasons that should seal the deal on not doing this because it will permanently ruin sunroofs for you.
