2018 GMC Sierra 1500 RWD. Time for new tires and I've been going back and forth between these two for differing reasons. Favor the Michelins because they are widely considered the benchmark all around tire for light trucks with excellent treadlife (big plus). The Continentals are a little cheaper but get great reviews also. They have a slightly lower mileage warranty (60k vs 70k). I like the wider tread and overall look of the Contis more than the Michelins, but I don't necessarily "need" an all-terrain or off-road tire aside from the rare dirt/gravel roads, etc. Almost exclusively a road vehicle. I have a really short commute, but the truck is what we typically take for longer road trips. We will be driving from Katy to Orland in a couple months to move my son for school. No towing in the foreseeable future but I do sometimes carry larger loads of dirt/sand.

TIA

Go Michelin, but if you're looking for a quality alternative at a good price with good warranty, traction, wear, and comfort, I'd go with the Firestone Destination LE3 over the Continentals.

Michelin. Great tires.
Consistency: It's only a virtue if you're not a screw-up.

I've run Firestone Destinations on my trucks as far back as I can recall. Maybe back to when Ford and Firestone were at odds when the Explorer roll overs were happening. That's when I started buying Firestone. Can't recall which tire I first purchased.

They've always been worth the money.

My new truck came with Hankooks

Those Firestones were the last tires I purchased for my Jeep Commander. Barely got 30,000 miles out of them.

Y'all have pretty much confirmed the way I was leaning anyway, but does anyone have actual experience with the Continentals? I've never had that brand of tire on anything, just curious.

I saw on discount's page that Michelin is releasing an updated version of the Defender LTX/ms that looks a little more aggressive. Problem is they won't be out until October.

I put Michelins on my 4x4 trucks. When I was in my 20s I'd slam a BFG on them because…ALL TERRAIN BRO…the fact is that my truck went off-road about twice as much as the average bro….so…4 times a year. Now that I'm old and crotchety I prefer my tires to have the best performance for the situation they are driven in for 99.5% of their life which is on road and usually towing. Even towing heavy loads the 4wd performance of the Michelins is quite adequate for most situations 4wd is needed. I know that doesn't matter to you because you are not 4x4 but my point is that both trucks see the same action.

I have a 19 Chevy 2500hd work truck that came with Firestones. They didn't last 25k miles.
I then put on BF Goodrich at DT and took the Firestone's to the burn pile. A fitting end.
ETA Two of the four firestones had a knot on the tread so maybe separated. I'm sure they would have blown out eventually if not changed. Was ready for a better mud grip type tread anyway so didn't bother with the tire warranty.

I had the Continentals on my 2016 F-150 FX4. Good tires, smooth and no noise to speak of, and had good traction during snowpocalypse when I had to venture out. Only complaint is that the tires did not last 60,000. I would buy again.

I'm on my second set of Continental A/Ts on a Yukon. The traction, especially wet traction, is excellent. They wear down quite a bit faster than the Michelins I've had before though, and are slightly louder.

Those Michelins may outlast your truck.

I run Michelins on my Sprinter van. I'm neutral on them. Had an ugly blowout where the tread delaminated and shredded everything in the wheel well including brake lines. Currently running eurometric Defenders which have higher load ratings than domestic Defenders but they are hard to find.

I've put 2 sets of Michelins on my Tacoma. No issues, and they usually last longer than the mileage rating.

If you're looking for a more aggressive tread than the Michelin LTX M/S - take a look at the Michelin LTX AT/2.

I'm on my second set of the LTX AT/2's on my 2016 F150 FX4.Had over 50,000 miles on first set. Got two sidewall punctures and had to replace (did all 4..)

Drive primarily on the highway. My need for 4WD is beaches and muddy lease/ranch roads. Nothing crazy.
Smooth and quiet on the highway. Wear evenly.

I've run Michelins on all of my vehicles Longest lasting tires with great flat resistance.

My 3 trucks, Now ex-wife's truck (when we were still married), and all four daughters' trucks/cars.

My '98 F150 had a set of LTX M/S that went for 7 1/2 years and 108,000 miles. Went to replace them at Discount and the guy ringing up the sale asked if I had replaced the tires since I last bought there. I told him no, they were the same tires. He could not believe I had 108,000 miles on that set. Only kind of tire that has been on that truck since Ford replaced the Blowout Firestones that came on it.

It currently has 359,000 on it.

In that time, I've only had two Michelin tires try to come apart. They started vibrating, but never totally separated. That was back in th '90s.

Great tires.

Went with the Michelins, got them put on yesterday. Initial impression after only about 20 miles is a VERY comfortable and quiet ride compared to the OEM Goodyears. A lot of construction in this area, so I noticed immediately. Thanks for all of the input.

I have the Continental HTs on my Ram after being only Michelin for many years. I'd say they are comparable, I've been happy with them so far. Supposedly the Continental ATs are among the quietest and best riding ATs on the market. You can't go wrong with either.
