Obviously, costly future repairs and problems are more likely with the turbos.

This is simply not true. The 3.5 Ecoboost has its share of common issues, but none of them are related to the turbos. I am far from an ecoboost fanboi. My truck has had the cam phasers replaced FOUR times, with the most recent one being on my dime. It's definitely not a perfect engine and I have no reason to defend it, but this automatic assumption that the engine is going to have more issues or more costly repairs simply because it has turbos is simply not true.

My truck has also had the starter, radiator, TCM, AC compressor, and water pumped replaced, but those components can all go out no matter which engine you have, and again, they have nothing to do with having turbos.
The eco boost engine is designed around having the turbos. So yes, the engine is different and comparatively more expensive to maintain simply because it has turbos.
How many F150s with the 5.0 engine have had the cam phasers replaced four times? Not to mention the other problems unique to the eco boost engine…

My new F250 is in the shop for the second time since buying in July. Loud wining noise in the rear end. Changed the pinion bearings the first time but still making a metallic winning noise when accelerating. Sounds similar to the cicada bugs in my oak trees at night.
Have another loaner F150 with the 3.5.

Ram still offers the ecodiesel.
They dropped it this year

I'm at a little over 300K miles combined on 2 3.5's - a '13 and a '19. Neither has even had a check engine light come on! Regular Maintenance. Nothing special.

Want to replace cam phasers or burn oil?
My 5.0 burned oil until they performed the dipstick change and throttle-body reprogram under recall.

Fixed it for free.

No issues otherwise.

Not even the same league as the cam phaser issues.

Ram still has plenty of 2023s on lots with the ecodiesel.

3.5 boost. How is this still even a question these days. There's a reason it's impossible to find a KR 5.0. No one pays for less power and less MPG.

I am sure they get better mpg and power but with the 3.71 gear ratio the 5.0 has plenty of power. ford techs would almost unanimously pick the v8 5.0. Oke example is the video below. I've talked to a lot of techs myself and almost universally would chose the 5.0.

I didn't realize they did another video two weeks ago.

Ordering started last week:

I prefer the 5.0 Coyote, but it has only been 2.5 to 3 years since they started using cylinder deactivation on the V8. So far haven't had any issues with mine, but I've only put about 17,000 miles since getting it in Apr 2021

How are there people out there worrying about reliability with a turbo? Diesel engines are legendary for their reliability and high mileage expectations and every one in the last 40 years has used a turbo.
Are there other potential issues with a 3.5, sure, but worrying about the turbo??? FYI, mine is at 101k with one throttle body replacement (stuck actuator, replaced in the driveway in 15 mins) and is miles better towing than my buddies 5.0 which has been in the shop for like 3 months over 3 years.
