Looking at the "Quicker Sticker" web site, it appears they already do windshields, headlight restore, batteries, etc.

They don't make squat from the actual sticker. Where they make their money is that the sticker forces people into the shop, and then they up sell wiper blades, lights, etc etc

They will do fine

For shops it's lost revenue. At some shops that means laying people off. For some it's going to mean shutting down. Or pivoting hard on what they provide. This is a huge revenue stream that is going away. Good for consumers, but very impactful to businesses.

If a shop is state inspection only I can agree with you. But everyone I see around our area are more tuned to oil changes, filters, wipers, A/C service, cooling system service ...... they get $7.50 for an insp.

They make little or nothing on the regulated $25 inspection. May even lose money on it. But, with everyone required to do it annually, they lose the opportunity to upsell air filters, wiper blades, fluid top-off, etc.

These quicker sticker places will probably survive in emissions counties, suspect most will shut down elsewhere.

Ours is only $7.50.

Does yours include emissions?

Yes. I'm in Houston.

Not the experience I had. Did they ask any questions? I only paid for the upcoming year. No past time after the registration had expired.

Same here in Tarrant County… they ask you if you got any citations for expired registration. If not, you only pay for the new registration.

Exactly. I have a farm truck that I sometimes don't register for a year or two. You only pay current unless you have a ticket.

And if you get a ticket, they start the renewal on the month of the last valid registration. Happened to me last year. Got a ticket in Feb, registered w/in 10 days, and my renewal was in August of last year.

Sounds like I got screwed. Registration expired 5/22 and when I went to renew it earlier this month they asked if I wanted to pay for one year or two. I initially said 1, but the person behind the counter said, "if you do that you'll be back in 3 weeks to do it all over again."

As much as people who aren't from SC like to whine and complain about the lack of safety inspections for cars in this state, cars on the road really aren't any better or worse than what I've seen just about everywhere else. That's excluding the super rare, rusted out crap that finds its way down from New England.

Inspections in San Antonio were all a bunch of crap, like trying to upsell you new wiper blades because your 6 month old ones were looking a little worn out. I just went to the hood-adjacent Quicker Sticker near Bandera and 410 to avoid that stuff. They'd drive the car around the little barn, honk the horn, and esse you're good to go!

Come to TN. Lots of crap that shouldn't be on the road.

Have you looked at the stuff on the road in Texas? There's a whole lot of crap that shouldn't be on the road here, too. Even the "nice" looking cars often have bald tires, etc. I'm not convinced that the lack of safety inspection is going to matter. I wish that we did hold people to some kind of standard.

How many places do nothing but inspections? Most mechanics I've seen just think it's a pain in the butt
I go to a literal Mom and Pop place for my inspections. It's just an older couple that have a shop with nothing in there but the little inspection cart and a printer. It's in a very rural area with nothing else around it. The husband does the (very limited) inspection and hooks up the emissions check and the wife takes the money and prints the inspection receipt. I'll be curious to see if they stay in business.

Glad this **** is ending. I always have to worry if they are going to say anything about my tint or not.

My local Quicker Sticker did inspections only. It'll be closing when the law take effect.

I'm not sure how they'll do fine. Most people who need wiper blades, batteries, or headlight restore don't think "Hey, I'll go to Quicker Sticker to get that done". QS offers those "services" because they can lie to people about failing inspections forcing them into an expensive up sale.

Then maybe it's time for that business to die.

If your only core service is a government-mandated boondoggle, and most of the rest of your revenue is based on dishonesty, I don't think we'll be missing it as a society.

Well, headed over to my local "doesn't really do inspections anyway, just passes me" place. One of the pickups runs out in June, so got to renew.

I had a trailer where I skipped a year because I had too many trailers. They asked me if it had been on the road at anytime during that year. It had not, so they charged me from the current date. Had it been, I would have had to catch it up.

Will this remove the inspection requirement for travel trailers?

May be dumb or ignorant question going forward. I live in Denton County and when I've had my vehicles inspected, the gas car was $25 and both my diesels were $7 each.

I thought the diesels were cheaper because it wasn't testing emissions, but everything I'm reading online says Denton County does test for diesel emissions? So moving forward, the gas car won't need an inspection, but the diesels will?
KRamp90
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There is no diesel emission testing in Texas. So, after this goes into effect, your diesel does not anything but registration.
