Anyone have any opinions on The Nissan Rouge vs the Murano. Have had good luck with Nissan vehicles and are thinking about getting rid of the Altima and going this direction. I do love good fuel economy thus the Altima on trips getting between 40 and 42 MPG. In the long run what would I be happier with?

Don't have direct experience with either, but I have a Nissan Kicks right now and it is horrendous. I wouldn't want anything with a Nissan CVT.

Wife bought her Altima in 2013 with CVT transmission and it's been great 135000 miles later. Kicks looks like a even smaller version of the Rouge..

Nissan has degraded to supply cars to rental fleets and people with poor credit. How about a Mazda or a Toyota?

I think their CVT problems are behind them?

Can't help on your decision because I'm not a fan of anything in that class.

Have time to look around and don't see anyone jumping in to recommend the Nissans! I'll look at what else is out there.

We had a rogue for a bit. It sucks. Very slow and boring to drive. It was reliable and we didn't have any issues with it. The murano is a nicer offering at a higher price.

OP, you do know Nissan isn't really your old Datsun anymore nor is it "Japanese."

They have an alliance with Renault and the French government has more influence on Nissan than Nissan does. This has been going on over 20+ years.

They suck.

We have a Nissan Juke in the family, 2017 or 2018... it's "ok" at best. Quality isn't all that good. It feels very flatly average and has had weird little problems constantly once it got 3-4 years old. Not heavy on mileage.

Why wife drove a Murano before her Pilot. We absolutely hated the Murano. It was too small and underpowered. We traded it in when the transmission started showing signs of failure at about 80,000 miles.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think that thing looks like a cargo van or something that should drive for UPS, FEDEX, Amazon, or the FBI.

Ugly for consumers.

I have had a 2022 Pathfinder for almost a year now and am very happy with it. You may not need as much car as that.

If you end up with a Nissan in Houston, you won't have to register it or have insurance, so that's a plus

The only people who buy a Murano can't get a loan approved on something better .... there's a lot of better choices out there I'd look at first. Have you tried walking?

But seriously, shop elsewhere.

Nissan, thanks to Renault, took a nosedive in quality and reliability in the 2010s but has made some changes over the last few years and are on the way back up. The current Murano model is a holdover from the general malaise of last decade, but the Rogue and Pathfinder are more recent models and much improved. The Pathfinder even dropped the CVT in favor of the 9 speed found in the Titan and Frontier. I'm no fan of CVTs, but the newest generation CVT in the Rogue is pretty decent compared the CVTs from just a few years ago.

Basically, if you're set on a Nissan, the Rogue and Pathfinder are good options, the Murano is not. That said, don't limit yourself to Nissan. The new models are a lot better, but there are options from other makes out there that are better still. As someone else mentioned, check out Mazda.

The 2024 Kia Seltos also looks like it'd be solid contender provided you went with the 1.6 turbo. I'm a fan of the layouts in Kias and find their "driver assistance" features to be less intrusive than any other make. Certainly my preferred make if I'm getting a sedan or crossover rental. Mazda would be my 2nd choice.

Wife got a 2023 Seltos last year. I didn't even know they existed until she said "What about this one?"

We decided if we were going that route, we had to get the trim model with turbo, hand brake, and spare tire.

It's been great in its first year, for what that's worth.

Nah I'll avoid all of those penalty boxes.

It's spooky watching people try to haul lumber in crossovers because the wood is always pointed down towards the back. Looks like it'll dump out if they take a bump too hard.

We've had Nissan Altimas for the last 15 years and a Rogue for the last 2. My only complaint about either was the Altima kept having the rubber seal in between the front dash and windshield pop out when it got hot. But that may have just been a fluke for our car

No credit problem. Just made last payment on our 2013 Nissan Altima and with the Pitbull just having pups bred by the neighbors Wolf hybrid we needed something a little larger to get the dogs to the low-income vaccine clinic next Saturday morning. LOL!

This is a very strange euphemism….

But you know you could rent a van from Fluid truck share for like 40 bucks to do that….
